Built circa 1843-5 by William LaFayette Jones and Fletcher Misner
One of Millington's oldest landmarks is the native limestone blacksmith and wagon shop built by William LaFayette
Jones and Fletcher Misner. Walter Stiles Faxon, Little Rock farmer and stone mason is said to have done the mason
work.
William L. Jones came to Newark in 1837. In 1840 he married Betsy Misner daughter of DeMarcus Misner. He remained
in Newark until moving to Millington in 1843. It was there, in partnership with Fletcher Misner that they built
plows and wagons, and did blacksmith work to meet the needs of settlers for miles around. They built the business
into a thriving enterprise before dissolving their partnership. "Uncle Billy" moved across the Fox River
to a farm near Asbury, LaSalle County and Fletcher Misner continued the business as sole proprietor.
