Lake County & The Civil War

Lake County sent 1,890 men to serve in the Civil War.  We only had a population of 18,300, as of the 1860 Federal Census.

Infantry -
15th Regiment -- Company I - 5/24/1861 to 9/1/1865
    Consolidated 7/1/1864 with the 14th Infantry to form the "14th and 15th Illinois Veteran Battalion", a single battalion despite the name.
19th Regiment -- Company C - 6/17/1861 to 7/9/1864
37th Regiment -- Company C, F - 9/18/1861 to 5/15/1866
51st Regiment -- Company G - 12/24/1861 to 9/25/1865
     AKA:  Chicago Legion; Ryan's Life Guards
65th Regiment -- Company F - 5/1/1862 to 7/26/1865
     AKA:  Second Scotch Regiment; Cameron's Highlanders
     Men from the 92nd, 107th and 112th Regiments transferred to the 65th to bring it back up to strength, June 1865.
96th Regiment -- Company C, D, G - 9/6/1862 to 6/10/1865
103rd Regiment -- Company B - 10/2/1862 to 6/14/1865
146th Regiment -- Company D - 9/18/1864 to 7/5/1865
147th Regiment -- Company A, I - 2/18-19/1865 to 1/20/1866
153rd Regiment -- Company H - 2/27/1865 to 5/15/1865

Artillery
1st Regiment -- Battery B - 3 months: 5/2/1861
 3 years: 7/16/1861 to 7/2/1865
     AKA: (Samuel E.) Barrentt's Battery; Chicago Light Artillery; Taylor's Battery; White's Battery; Bridges Battery; and Ramsey's Battery.
