[Page 33] REV. LAURITZ A. VIGNESS - President of Pleasant View Luther College of Ottawa. His father, Ole L. VIGNESS, was born in Finnoe, Norway, and was a fisherman till twenty-three years old. Came to U. S. in 1856 and went to Rock Co., Wisconsin and found employment at Janesville. In 1859 he took up homestead in Fillmore Co., Minnesota, and three years later married Miss Anna HALLUM, likewise a native of Norway. The mother died in 1884, leaving three sons and three daughters. Carl L., the 2nd son is college professor; Mary, is wife of J. STENNES, of Milan, Minnesota; Inga, who lives in same township is wife of J. JOHNSON; and Emma and Edward. Until 15 years old, Lauritz A., attended schools in native county. Two years in Marshall (Wisconsin) Academy; and 4 years at college at Canton, S. Dakota. Graduated in 1885 from Dixon College, and a student at Augustana Theological Seminary at Beloit, Iowa. In 1887 he became member of the faculty of Highland Park University, at Des Moines, Iowa. The presidency of the Jewell Lutheran College at Jewell, Webster Co., Iowa, then to Pleasant View Luther College in Ottawa. In 1887 he married Miss Margaret KROGNESS, at Larchwood, Lyon Co., Iowa. Mrs. VIGNESS is a daughter of Rev. S. M. and Johanna (AMMANDSEN) KROGNESS, both deceased. Mr. & Mrs. VIGNESS had four sons and one daughter: Joseph Alfred; Orrin Sylvanus; Lewis Martell; Paul Gerhard; and Lydia Ruth.
