[Page 47] DAVID LORING - Came to La Salle County in 1838. Born in New Hampshire, November 11, 1775. He married Mercy BENSON, native of Rhode Island, born May 1, 1786. He purchased a farm in E. Bloomfield, Ontario Co., New York, where he lived until 1832. Then to Medina Co., Ohio; then in 1838 to Manlius township, this county. He died May 11, 1847 on his farm. His wife died September 1, 1846, age sixty years. They had four sons and two daughters: Thomas; Sally; Betsey; David; John; and Wm. R. Thomas, the eldest son of David and Mercy, was born in Ontario, New York in 1806 and in 1827 married Caroline HALL, a native of Providence, Rhode Island. They had three children: Thomas; Hannah; and Catharine. Coming to Illinois, Thomas LORING Sr. Was jailer at Ottawa, deputy sheriff and state prison guard in Alton, Illinois. Also hotel proprietor at Ottawa and Marseilles. His wife died in Marseilles in 1850, and Mr. LORING later married Miss Laura COOLEY, of Northville, and they had three children: Jennie; Frankie; and Nellie. Mr. LORING died in Marseilles in 1887, age eighty-one. His son, Thomas, went to California in 1849 with the Green Company and died in Boise, Idaho a few years ago. Hannah, daughter of Thomas Sr., married Aaron GAGE, of Brookfield township, this county, and still living on homestead. Her husband died several years ago. She had seven children. Catharine, the 2nd daughter of Thomas Sr., married Henry MITCHELL, of Ottawa, Illinois; later moved to La Porte, Iowa where Mr. MITCHELL died in 1896. She had four children. Sally LORING, daughter of David LORING, was born in Ontario County, New York in 1809 and married Dolphus CLARK, of that county. They came to Illinois in 1836, locating in township 33. In 1867 moved to Marseilles, where Mr. CLARK died in 1884 and his wife in 1898. They had ten children, 4 sons & 6 daughters: Carlos; Adaline; Mercy; Sally; Caroline; John; Mary; Dolphus; Richard; and Clara. Betsey LORING, the second daughter of David LORING, was born in Ontario Co., New York in 1812 and became the wife of Nelson MOREY. In 1836 they came to Illinois; afterward went to Texas, and in 1850 Mrs. MOREY died near Galveston, leaving one son, Harvey MOREY. David LORING, second son of David Sr., was born in Ontario Co., New York in 1814 and in 1836 came to Illinois. He married Elizabeth NICHOL, of Mansfield, Ohio, and had eight children, 2 sons and 6 daughters, but two of the children died in infancy. Those still living are: Malvina; Betsey; Ella; Marvel; Jennie; and George. Malvina married Mr. HILL, had a son and daughter, and now lives in Olympia, Washington; Betsey is wife of Mr. CRAWFORD, of Wyoming and have three children; Ella, is wife of Mr. SWAN of Olympia, Washington; Jennie is married and lives in Ontario Co., New York; George is married and lives in Salt Lake City, Utah. Mr. LORING, the father of these children is still living at age eighty-five and mother is now eighty years. They live at Olympia, Washington. John LORING the third son of David Sr., was born in Ontario County, New York, August 22, 1817 and in 1835, when 18 years old, came to Illinois. He was married January 1, 1844 to Louisa MICKEY, of Mansfield, Ohio, who died December 28, 1893 age seventy-six. After her death, Mr. LORING lived with his daughter, Mrs. PIESTER in Marseilles, and died at eighty-one years. Mr. and Mrs. LORING were parents of four children: Eliza; Hulbert L.; George; and Alzina. The elder daughter, became wife of Milton PIESTER, of Mission. In 1882 they moved to Marseilles. He died in 1887, age forty-nine years, leaving widow and four children: Carrie; Marcia; Alzina; and Winnie - all living in Marseilles. Hulburt L., born in Miller township, September 6, 1864 and married December 25, 1870 to Mary BOSWORTH who died June 27, 1872. On December 25, 1878 he married Mary J. GROVE. They live on a farm in Miller twp., and have two children: George and Wilber. George LORING, the third son of John LORING, was born in Miller twp., January 13, 1849 and married Addie B. ENGLE, of Burr Oak, Michigan, December 5, 1878. He lives in Miller twp., this county, and has two children: Margaret and Raymond. Alzina LORING, the fourth child of John LORING was born January 1, 1856 and was married September 17, 1879 to John M. WELLS, of Nevada, Iowa, where they now reside. They have one daughter, Reine. Winnie R. LORING, the youngest son of David LORING, was born in Ontario Co., New York, on August 22, 1820 and in 1838 came to Illinois. He married in 1843, Jane MICKEY of Mansfield, Ohio, a sister of his brother John’s wife, and had ten children, 9 sons and one daughter, of whom seven are living. Mrs. LORING died in Osceola, Iowa several years ago and Mr. LORING died in Peoria, Illinois in 1897. Of their children: Thomas and May, died in infancy; Alonzo died at eighteen years; Riley is married and lives at Peoria; Augustus F., is married and lives in Missouri; Ernest is married and lives in Colorado; Elzie, Jessie, and Simeon live in Kentland, Indiana; and Charles is married and lives in Chicago.
