[Page 70]  JAMES W. STEVENSON - Postmaster of Sunrise, La Salle, Illinois.  Born in Warren County, New Jersey, August 30, 1827, son of John and Hannah (WILSON) STEVENSON, and grandson of Joseph STEVENSON.  John was also born in New Jersey where he grew to manhood and farmed.  He was a member of the Society of Friends.  Hannah WILSON was born in Warren Co., New Jersey and was the daughter of Gabriel and Grace (BROTHERTON) WILSON, both of whom were of English descent.  They had eight children:  Joseph, lives in Pasadena, Calif.;  James W., our subject;  Samuel, deceased, late of Pennsylvania;  Almira Deats, of New Jersey;  William, who died in Sayre, Pennsylvania;  Edwin, who drowned when twenty-one years old;  Daniel, in Streator; and Walter, in Pasadena, Calif.  The father died at fifty-four years and the mother died March 20, 1889, aged eighty-seven.  Both died in this county.  James W. grew up in New Jersey.  He came to Rutland twp., La Salle County, Illinois in 1849.  About 1851, he returned to New Jersey for two years, then back to this county.  In 1851 he married Miss Comfort A. MILLIKIN, daughter of Samuel and Rebecca (WILLIAMS) MILLIKIN, and a native of Licking Co., Ohio.  Her parents were early settlers of La Salle County, and both died in Rutland twp.  Eight children were born to them, of whom six daughters and one son are living:  Comfort A., wife of our subject;  Sarah RUSSELL, resident of Iowa;  Minerva SMITH, of Iowa;  Amanda L. WIGHTMAN, of Council Bluffs, Iowa;   Jerusha KELLEY, of Grant City, MO.;  Samuel; and Lucy PARR.  Mr. and Mrs. STEVENSON had six children:  Emma, at home;  John, married Miss Florence GARVER, by whom he had two children, Grace Eva and Roy;  Edward, of Toledo, Ohio;  Ernest, a musician who married Miss Mamie VAIL and has two children, James VAIL and Elmira C.;  William, who married Miss Mabel SPENCER; and Byron, who died at thirty years.
