[Page 71] MILLARD F. BOVARD - Editor of the Marseilles Register. Born in East Liverpool, Ohio in 1856, son of Oliver K. and Mahala (HERIN) BOVARD. When he was six years old, our subject’s father died and ten years later his mother passed away. Millard located in Bloomington, Illinois in 1871, and later commenced an apprenticeship to the printer’s trade in office of the Bloomington Pantagraph. Worked at journalism for eight years, after which he taught school, served as superintendent of schools in McLean and Livingston counties for about fifteen years. He then conducted a newspaper at Forest, Illinois for a year or two, and then came to Marseilles in August, 1895. He bought the Register, a six column quarto. In April, 1879 he married Miss Jennie PLANK, daughter of Horace and Louisa PLANK, natives of Massachusetts, but now of Marseilles. Mr. & Mrs. BOVARD had two sons and two daughters: Edna L., a teacher in town schools; Horace R.; Mahala Blanche; and Millard F. Jr.
