[Page 88] GEORGE MICHAEL FLICK - (Retired) Born near Centerville, St. Clair Co., Illinois, May 5, 1845, and has claimed Streator as his home for more than twenty-five years. Michael and Mary Ann (MILLER) FLICK, the parents were born in Germany and came to U. S. and settled in St. Clair County, Illinois. They lived on a farm until their deaths. Both parents died in 1857, leaving four sons: Frank P.; Charles F.; John; and George Michael. Three of the brothers were in the Civil War. George M. FLICK remained on the farm until twelve years old, when parents died. He attended Oakfield University, at Oakfield for two years. Then was clerk in a store at Earlville until he enlisted in Civil War. After the war, worked in butcher business with his brother, John, for sixteen months. Then in various positions until 1872 when he came to Streator and opened a meat market, which he conducted till 1894. He then bought a small farm. November 13, 1869, he married Miss Pauline KNOEDLER, who was born October 7, 1851, daughter of Jacob and Barbara (MASNER) KNOEDLER. Mrs. FLICK’s parents were born in Wittenberg, Germany and came to U. S. and lived in Illinois at the time of father’s death. The mother is still living and lives with her children: Charles F.; Caroline, wife of A. HARTMAN of Chicago; Mrs. A. WEISS; Mrs. Sophia DEIST, of Chicago; Lucy, wife of Colonel BREITTING, of Chicago, and Mrs. FLICK. Mr. & Mrs. FLICK have three children: Cora B., born June 27, 1870; William C., August 31, 1872; and Meta P., born April 16, 1877. Cora B. taught school until her death at twenty-two years; William C. is a teller in a bank; and Meta P. is a teacher.
