Death Takes E. Kilmer Civil War Veteran

Mrs. John Bowers of Rutland Twp. was notified this morning of the death of her father, Egbert Kilmer, 88 former Ottawa resident, who died yesterday afternoon at the Soldier's home in Quincy, Ill., where he has been bedfast for 2 years.

Mr.Kilmer was born in 1839 in Scranton, Penn., came west with his parents in 1850, and settled on the prairie north of Marseilles.  At the age of 20, he enlisted in the army at the beginning of the Civil War, joining the 39th Ill. Volunteers-known as "Yates Halanx" and served over 3 years before receiving his honorable discharge.  In 1866 he married Miss Jane Elizabeth Perkins of Marseilles, 3 children being born to this union.  They were Nellie Elizabeth Holcomb, of Waterloo, Iowa; Mrs. Bowers, of Rutland Twp.; and Jennie McMath, of Chicago, all living.

His wife died in 1915, at Quincy, Ill.  In 1916 he married Mrs. Louise Alger, of Quincy, who died in 1925.

But two of Mr. Kilmer's eight brothers and sisters survive him - Thomas Kilmer, of Morris and Sabina Fellows, of Independence, Kansas.

Funeral arrangements have been completed.  The burial will be made in the family lot in Riverview cemetery, Marseilles, besides his 1st wife.
