I am searching for the obits of my great-great grandfather, and his wife.
They were Mr & Mrs Ludwig TROTTNOW, he died 1/7/1892, and she died 6/26/
1897. Old copies of the Dixon newspaper just report the deaths, and say they
were notified by the Frankln Grove newspaper. I have tried to find back
issues of the F.G. paper, but have had no luck. If anyone knows where I
might find these obits, or back issues of the F.G. paper I would appreciate
hearing from you.

I am looking for information about Maurice C. McMAHON. On the 1880 Soundex,
I found Patrick McMahon age 62, giving him a birthdate of approx 1818 he was
listed in Lee County MayTwp. His wife's name was Ann, and she was 52, making
her birthdaye 1828. It showed they were both born in Ireland. I was told
when I was younger, by my grandmother Elizabeth Cleary McMahon, that her
mother-in-law, had a fine singing voice, and sang with a choir at the
Cathedral in St. Louis every Christmas. There were listed on the soundex,
Thomas age 24, William, age 19, Alice, age 17, Joseph age 13, James age 11,
and Morris, age 9, which is the age my grandfather would have been. There
are a few other places I have seen his named spelled Morris instead of
Maurice, but his name was Maurice C. McMahon and was listed that way on the
1910 census of Cook County. I hope to verify that the Patrick McMahon is the
right one, and would love to know if any of these people are still around.

From: I have a lost great-great grandfather, Millard Alonzo BUTLER, who I am
seeking a death record, cemetery record, or obituary of. He was supposedly
buried in or near Franklin Grove, IL in about 1921. His wife and children
still remained in Plymouth, Woodbury, Greene and Cherokee Counties in Iowa,
but we lost track of where "Lon" went to. My uncle, whom I received my
initial family information from when I started out in this hobby, had
written down that "Lon" BUTLER was buried in Franklin Grove, IL. I haven't
been able to understand why, since. I have found his name written a few
different ways. 1) Millard Alonzo Butler, 2) Alonzo Millard Butler, 3) M. A.
Butler, 4) A. M. Butler, and 5) Willard Alonzo Butler. I think the first way
is correct, and that he was nicknamed "LON". I even have a family group
portrait of Lon's parents and siblings. The only other names that I have are
his parent's, and I'm not possitive of them; Calvin and Alice BUTLER. The
only other lead that I have for Calvin is a Marriage CD entry from the LDS
family history center, here; "Calvin BUTLER married to Eliza (may sound like
Alice, or even look like Alice if handwritten) CARTER, on Jan. 19, 1852 in
Stark Co., IL. This date would correspond with Lon's birth year of 1855 in

I am trying to find any information about the ODENTHAL family of Dixon. The
family of my great great grandfather, (Peter?) Joseph ODENTHAL, came from
Trier, Germany. My great grandfather, William (baptised Wilhelm) ODENTHAL,
was born in Cologne, Germany May 11, 1847. In ca. 1865 the whole family
moved to the United States and most of them settled in Illinois in or near
Dixon. In 1914 William ODENTHAL with his wife and daughter, Christine, moved
to Columbus, Nebraska where he died on March 3, 1922. My grandfather is
William's son, Paul, who was born in 1885 in Dixon. He married Gertrude
BARTON, also of Dixon. He died as a result of an hereditary heart defect in
1911, and my grandmother remarried and moved with my mother, Margaret, to
Chicago. This is the reason I know so little about this side of my family.

Estelle MANNING and lived in Rochelle, Ogle County, IL, Maggie, b. 1852 in
Canada, Frank, b. 1854 in Canada, Mary, b. 1856 in IL, Charlie, b. 1859,
Will County, IL, Emma, B. 1862 in Will County, IL, Ida, b. 1863, b. Will
County, IL., Willie, b. 1866 in Will County, IL (he married Sarah Lulu
SAMPSON on 4/17/1899 in Ogle County, IL, they had a son Wilbur Henry
SHERWOOD, b. 1/23/1900 who married Frances Irene FUESTMAN).
Also researching Gottfriedt Henrich FUESTMAN, b. 10/10/1822 in Asseln,
Dortmund, Westfalen, Prussia, who married Katerina, b. 1841, they immigrated
to the US before 1860 as they are shown in that census with no children. All
their children were born in IL: Emma, Henry, William, August, Albert, Olga,
Freddie, Kady, and George. William FUESTMAN married Edith JOHNSON in Lee
County, IL. This family lived in Paw-Paw, Willow Creek, and Lane areas.
While researching the Gottfriedt Henrich FUESTMAN family we have found he
and his wife Katerina immigrated to the US around 1858/1859 from Asseln,
Dortmund, Westfalen, Prussia. All of their children were born in Lee County,
IL. I was wondering if he perhaps applied to become a citizen and if so,
would the Naturalization Form be in the Lee County Court House? Since all of
his children automatically became American citizens upon their birth in this
county he may not have felt it necessary to be a citizen himself.

My grandparents Harry Kyle GARNSEY and his wife Amy SCOTT were married in
the Methodist Church in Dixon in 1898. I have been helping my husband
research his Southern roots for the last couple of years and have put my
research on hold for a while. Santa brought us a new computer for Christmas
and last night I found your Website! I am going to order your calendars -
especially would like the one on Louie Scott, as he is related to me. I was
in Dixon about 1973 and Louie and his wife Rosella invited us to lunch! We
kept up with him and I knew that she had passed away, but I did not know
that he was still living! His brother Chuck called me every year until his
death in 1985. Please give Louie my regards - he will remember me as
Patricia GENT. I remarried three years ago. I plan to send you some
information for your next book. My SCOTT line is through my grandmother Amy
Lenora, who was the daughter of Robert H. SCOTT and his wife Ruth FAIRMAN.
Have a lot on the SCOTT line, but am more interested in getting help on the
FAIRMANs. Ruth's father was Erastus and her mother was Amy. Amy is buried in

I'm looking for my ancestors John and sons William and son William STANLEY,
who sired Edward Stanley my grandfather. John STANLEY (STANDLEY) was a
metalurgist from Birmingham England who came to Dixon or environs to set up
Stanley Files (approx name) the old stone bldg of which is in downtown Dixon
near the falls in the Rock River. I suspect the time frame of John's arrival
is ~1840-60. Is there info on John's tool business in Dixon? What are the
years? Is there info on John, Wm, Wm, etc. I understand that John's (Wm's)
business was sold to Reynolds Wire which was a major employer in Dixon in
mid-early 1900's. The later and at least some of early STANLEYs lived on
Stoney Point Road (Truesdale Rd). Edward Stanley d ~ 1950-55 was a local
politician for a while. He was involved earlier with the Borden Milk
Factory, later the Cement Factory. I am unsure of the b,d dates. At least
some of Stanleys are buried in Oakwood cemetery in Dixon. Is it possible to
get that info from the cemetery so that I can get the actual vital stats at
Lee County Court? Is there any biogr on the early Stanley family or of early
Dixon manufacturers of metal products? Sincerely yours, Sharon Stanley
