January Meeting

On January 9, 2014, RoxAnn Raisner, Director for the 1820 Col. Benjamin Stephenson House presented a program titled Federal Clothing: From the Inside Out. This program showed how the typical man and woman dressed during the Federal Period (early 1800s). RoxAnn grew up in southeast Iowa. She received her B.S. from Iowa Wesleyan College, where she majored in Art with a double minor in History and Political Science. Her career began in 1989, when she was hired as assistant manager for Old Fort Madison, and in 1993 she became the site's director. In 2003, she moved to Glen Carbon. The Friends of the Stephenson House hired her in 2005, as the first Director of the 1820 Col. Benjamin Stephenson House. RoxAnn has extensive knowledge of period sewing and clothing construction techniques for the Federal Period.

Since this program was a demonstration, it cannot be adequately described in words. If you missed this one, you missed a very interesting and informative program.
