Elisha B. Barnard was the son of Jacob & Rutha Barnard and was born in Summers County, Tenn. He came to Greene County, Ill., with his uncle, Zadock Barnard, about 1835. After his cousin Elisha who was the eldest son of Zadock, died 9 Aug 1842, and was buried in an unmarked grave in Jackson cemetery, this Elisha married his cousin Elisha's widow. Elisha B. Barnard and Mahala Maberry Barnard were married on 15 Feb 1843. Their children were: Henry Green, Thomas S., Elisha Carroll, Hiram E., Mary Ellender, Mahalia Ann, Amanda H. and Armitta A.
