Kenyon Walker SPRINGFIELD, Ill.

Kenyon Lee Walker, 73, former Greene County resident and well-known in horse racing, died Feb. 15, 2005, at St. James Hospital in Chicago Heights, Ill. Visitation: 4 to 8 p.m. Friday. Services: 1 p.m. Saturday, all at Airsman-Hires, Carrollton. Memorials to the family.

Walker

Greene County native Kenyon Lee Walker, 73, of Springfield died Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2005, unexpectedly at St. James Hospital in Chicago Heights.

He was born Oct. 10, 1931, near Wrights, the son of Leonard and Bernice (Ethell) Walker. He married Jean Springman July 27, 1957, and she survives.

Surviving in addition to his wife are his stepmother, Margaret Walker of rural Jacksonville; four daughters, Helen Phillips of Alton, Janet (husband Louis) Baumgartner of Carrollton, Deb (husband George) Staples of Carrollton, and Tammy (husband Keith) Waddell of Morris; a son, Doug (wife Kathy) Walker of Carrollton; 10 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; three brothers, Harold Walker of White Hall, Maurice Gene Walker of Forest City, and his twin, Kenton Walker of Mesa, Ariz.; six stepbrothers, Claude Walker, Lyle Walker, Jerry Walker, Mike Walker, Leonard "Junior" Walker, and Roger Walker, all of the Jacksonville area; six stepsisters, Mary Meyers, Martha DeGroot, Linda Orris, all of the Jacksonville area, Marilyn Spindel of Divernon, Marsha Hawkins of Decatur, and Lois Walker at home.

He was preceded in death by two infant sons.

A U.S. Navy Air Corps veteran, Mr. Walker served during the Korean Conflict. He loved working with horses and was well known in the horse racing community.

Visitation was Friday at Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in Carrollton, where funeral services were at 1 p.m. Saturday with the Rev. Don Staten officiating. Musical selections included "You Lift Me Up" by Josh Groban, "Go Rest High" by Vince Gill, and "Remember When" by Alan Jackson.

Casketbearers were Matt Whitlock, B.J. Staples, Shane Staples, Brad Baumgartner, Nick Walker, and Nathan Walker. Burial was at Belltown Cemetery north of Carrollton.

Memorials may be made to the family.
