Greene County native Charles K. Brannan, 64, of Bloomington, died at 9:08 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 25, 1994, at BroMenn Regional Medical Center in Normal.
Born in Eldred March 31, 1930, he was the son of Janette (Smith) Brannan of Eldred and the late Keith R. Brannan. He married the former Virginia Dowdall Feb. 2, 1953, in Carrollton, and she survives.
Surviving in addition to his wife, Virginia, and mother are a son, David Brannan of Bloomington; a daughter, Linda Brannan Witte of Shirley; four brothers, Richard Brannan of Godfrey, Gordon Brannan of Roodhouse, and Barry Brannan and Michael Brannan of Eldred; a sister, Joan Brannan Staples of Carrollton; and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother, Joe Brannan.
A member of the First Baptist Church of Bloomington, Mr. Brannan served four years, from 1951-55, in the US Air Force during the Korean War, reaching the rank of Tec. Sgt. He attended Arizona State University, and graduated from Illinois State Normal University with a bachelor of science degree in 1958, and a master of science degree in 1959. He played basketball at ISNU two seasons, 1956-58. His teaching career began in 1960-61 as a teacher and basketball coach at Octavia High School. He retired in 1992 from Bloomington District 87 after 33 years, where he served as teacher, elementary principal, and 22 years as an elementary counselor. Since 1960, he worked at State Farm Park during the summers.
Mr. Brannan was a life member of the National Education Association, and held memberships in local and state education associations. In 1992, he was nominated by his peers at Stevenson School for the IEA Region 14 Teacher Excellence Award, which he received. A licensed flight instructor, he was a member of the Cross Winds Flying Club, holding various offices in the club for 10 years.
Friends may call Friday at Kibler-Smith Memorial Home in Bloomington from 4-8 p.m., and Saturday, at the First Baptist Church of Bloomington, where the Rev. W. Spencer Gillespie and Richard N. Gillingham will officiate at 10 a.m. services. Interment will follow at 2:30 p.m. at Carrollton City Cemetery.
The family suggests that memorial gifts be made to the American Cancer Society or the van fund at First Baptist Church, Bloomington.
ELDRED - Janette E. Brannan, 82, died at 10:36 a.m. Monday, April 3, 1995, at St. John's Hospital in Springfield.
Born near Eldred Nov. 26, 1912, she was the daughter of the late Charles H. and Beatrice (Borman) Smith.
She married Keith R. Brannan Aug. 31, 1929, in Jacksonville. He died Jan. 24, 1985.
Surviving are a daughter, Joanie Staples of Carrollton; four sons, Richard Brannan of Godfrey, Gordon Brannan of Roodhouse and Barry and Mike Brannan, both of Eldred; 22 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; two sisters, Eileen Cunningham of Carrollton and Doris Shackelford of Alton; and a brother, Luther Smith of Eldred.
She was preceded in death by two sons, Charles and Joe Brannan; a granddaughter, JoAnn Brannan; an infant brother, Donald Smith; and two sisters; Marjorie Cunningham and Norma Newton.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in Carrollton, where services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday. The Rev. Jon Lobos will officiate.
Burial will be in Carrollton City Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Eldred Baptist Church.
Greene County native David E. Burruss, 73, of Crestwood, Mo., died Tuesday, Sept. 13, 1994, at his home following a lengthy illness.
Born in Carrollton Jan. 13, 1921, he was the son of Ninian and Charlotte (Johnson) Burruss. He married the former Winifred Faith of Rockbridge April 2, 1944, in Columbus, Ga., and she survives.
Surviving in addition to his wife, Winnie, are a son, David Burruss of Manchester, Mo.; two daughters, Linda King of Roswell, Ga., and Susan Brown of Plano, Tex.; and five grandchildren, Krista Linscott of Roswell, Ga., Alyssa and Aaron Brown of Plano, Tex., and Shannon and Lindsay Burruss of Manchester, Mo.
A commissioned World War II veteran, serving with the US Army, Mr. Burruss graduated from Carrollton High School where he participated in all sports, lettering in several, and from the University of Illinois, with a major in marketing.
The family will receive friends immediately following an 11 a.m. memorial service Saturday, Sept. 17, at Webster Hills United Methodist Church, 698 W. Lockwood, St. Louis. Private interment was today, Thursday, at Carrollton City Cemetery. Gerber Chapel of St. Louis was in charge of arrangements.

Robert Hugh Butler, 86, of Carrollton, died Saturday afternoon, July 10, 2004, at Boyd Memorial Hospital in Carrollton.
He was born April 17, 1918, in Carrollton, the son of John and Lily Brewer Butler. He married Loraine Bushnell on June 9, 1942, in Bowling Green, Mo., and she survives.
He is also survived by one son, Kenneth (wife, Sharon) of Carrollton; one daughter, Carolyn of Carrollton; one grand-daughter, Melanie (husband, Tim) Fessler of Carrollton; one great grandchild; and three nieces. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Lawrence and Wayne; and one sister, Gertie Mungall.
Mr. Butler owned and operated Butler Dairy Bar in Carrollton for several years. He was a bus driver for Carrollton Community Unit Dist. 1. He loved thrasher reunions, steam engines, reading and cats. He was a member of the Carrollton First Baptist Church, where he served on the Deacon Board and was a Sunday School teacher. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the infantry of the U. S. Army and was a member of the Greene Co. Farm Bureau.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday at the First Baptist Church in Carrollton, with burial at Carrollton City Cemetery. The family will meet friends from 12:30 p.m. until time of services Tuesday at the church. Memorials are suggested to the First Baptist Church Fellowship Hall. Robert Carter, 40, of Carrollton, who, on the afternoon of Sept. 19 was severely injured while assisting in taking down a steel frame of a windmill at the farm of his father south of Carrollton, died at St. Luke's Hospital, St. Louis Sept. 25 where he was taken for treatment and underwent a surgical operation. Besides his parents he is survived by the widow and two daughters, Mildred and Anna, also by three brothers.

Betty Bandy Darr, 80, of Carrollton, died Thursday morning, Sept. 2, 2004, at Boyd Memorial Hospital Emergency Room.
She was born April 15, 1924, in Greene County, the daughter of Charles and Helen Kidd Pierret. She married Bob Bandy on Sept. 7, 1952, in Hot Springs, Ark., and he preceded her in death Sept. 11, 1981. She married Howard Willis Darr in Nov 1987, and he preceded her in death in Jan. 1999.
She is survived by one daughter, Jamette (husband, Tom) Teaney of Winchester; one nephew who was raised in the home, Mike (wife, Donna) Tharp of Alton; one granddaughter, Amy Pohlman of Lombard; two great-grandchildren; and one sister, Helen "Charlene" (husband, Norris) Merriman of Jacksonville.
Mrs. Darr was a registered nurse for 42 years, 32 of them at Boyd Memorial Hospital. She and her first husband owned and operated Bobette's Flower Shop in Carrollton for many years. She was always there when needed and loved helping people. She enjoyed playing cards and fishing.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday at Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in Carrollton, with burial at Carrollton City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. today at the funeral home. Newton L. Elliott Jr., 88, of Godfrey died at 7:10 a.m. Tuesday morning, at Rosewood Care Center in Alton.
He was born Sept. 3, 1916, in Bluffs, the son of Newton L. Sr. and Ola (Morris) Elliott. He married Wilma Schroeder Aug. 18, 1946, and she survives.
Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter, Pamela (husband Gordon) Young of Brighton; a son, William (wife Sandy) Elliott of Paris, Ill.; a granddaughter, Samantha (husband Paul) Volstorf of Paris, Ill.; a stepgranddaughter, Camille (husband Bryon) Kuglin of Terre Haute, Ind; a stepgreat-grandson, William Cooper Kuglin of Terre Haute, Ind.; two sisters, Winifred Smith of Jacksonville and Nancy Benham of Queen Creek, Ariz.; and two brothers, Kenneth Elliott of Kankakee and Sterling Elliott of Jacksonville. He was preceded in death by a brother, John Elliott; and three sisters, Florence, Margaret, and Delphia.
Mr. Elliott graduated from Jacksonville High School and earned his undergraduate degree from Illinois College in Jacksonville. He was awarded his master's degree by the University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana. He also completed course-work leading to a Doctorate at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale.
He was an honorably discharged U.S. Army Veteran of the European Theatre of Operation in World War II. Following the end of hostilities Master Sergeant Elliott remained in his position as an interpreter for the U.S. Army in Germany until his discharge. He retired from the Alton Public School System after a 47-year career as an educator. He was a member of the Carrollton United Methodist Church, Illinois Retired Teachers Association, the National Education Association, and the Illinois Education Association.
Friends may call after 11 a.m. Friday at Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in Carrollton, until funeral service time at noon. Pastor Bruce Ghitalla of the Carrollton United Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will be at Carrollton City Cemetery.

The Rev. Bruce Ghitalla officiated at noon funeral services Friday, Oct. 22, 2004, for Newton L. Elliott, Jr. 88, of Godfrey, at Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in Carrollton. Organist Pauline Langer accompanied a quintet of John Langer, Jean Caselton, Tom Morgan, David Reif and Greg Reif who sang "Amazing Grace" and "Walk With Me."
Casketbearers were John Langer, Roger Boss, Bryon Mouser, Bryon Kuglin, Ryan Mouser and Chad Strohkirch. Burial was at Carrollton City Cemetery with military rites conducted by the Carrollton American Legion.
George A. Graham, 71, of Carrollton died early Saturday, Oct. 28, 1995, at his residence.
He was born Aug. 13, 1924, in Carrollton the son of George W. and Gilda (King) Graham. He married Fannie Coonrod, and she preceded him in death. He later married Lauvai Worley, and she preceded him in death. He then married Doris Crabtree Oct. 23, 1988, and she survives.
He is also survived by a son, Kenneth A. Graham of Clute, Tex.; a daughter, Phyllis Vetter of Carrollton; seven stepsons, Jerry Worley of Witchita Falls, Tex., Tom Worley of Irvine, Calif., David Worley of Palo Alto, Calif., Tim Worley of Iowa Park, Tex., and Jim and Ron Crabtree of Roodhouse, and Larry Crabtree of Jacksonville; 21 grandchildren and step grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; three brothers, David Graham of Pittsfield, Herb Graham of Jerseyville and Keith Graham of Carrollton; and three sisters, Virginia Hartman and Janie Bland of Carrollton, and Dorothy Burkett of Gillespie.
A World War II U.S. Army veteran, Mr. Graham served as a paratrooper. He was a truck driver out of Teamsters Local 600 in St. Louis for 36 years and was a steward for most of the time. He was a member of the Carrollton American Legion, Carrollton First Baptist Church, Greene County Farm Bureau, Jerseyville Moose Lodge, National Rifle Association and Veterans of Foreign Wars member-at-large.
Visitation was Sunday at Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in Carrollton, where funeral services were at 11 a.m. Monday with the Rev. Jerry Belden officiating. Organist was Diane Wolfley. A taped selection of "What a Friend" by Tennessee Ernie Ford was played.

Robert "Bob" Green, 76, died Thursday, Oct. 7, 2004, at Reisch Memorial Nursing Home in Carrollton.
He was born Aug. 13, 1928, in Rosedale, Va., to Charles and Sara Peace Green. He married Dorothy Stringer in Eldred on June 22, 1949. She survives.
He was a self-employed timber broker, an avid hunter and fisherman, and loved the outdoors. He will be sadly missed.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by six daughters and five sons-in-law, Wanda and Robert Nelson of Columbia, Mo.; Sharon and Paul Albrecht of Greenfield, Janet and Mike Becker of Carrollton, Terri and Jim Edwards of Jerseyville, Christi Green of Carbondale, Ill., and Kathy and David Pate of Beardstown; 16 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; five sisters, Janelle, Virginia, Sue, Rita and Jeanette; and four brothers, Martin, Hayden Ford, Curtis and Delphis. He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Irene; and one brother, Charles Estel.

Tim Robert Hansen, 16, of Bethalto died at 2:56 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 3, 1995, from injuries suffered in an automobile accident on Snake Road near Moro.
Born May 27, 1979, in Alton, he was the son of Janet (Wagener) Hulett and stepson of Cecil Hulett of Meadowbrook, with whom he lived, and Bob Hansen and his stepmother, Debbie Hansen of Florissant, Mo.
Surviving in addition to his parents and stepparents are a sister and brother-in-law, Kristi and Michael Davis of Wood River; a stepbrother, Ivan McVey of Florissant; a nephew, Michael Davis of Wood River; two maternal aunts, Jewell Wagener of Pittsfield and Carolyn Mills of Oklahoma City, Okla.; four maternal uncles, Ronald Wagener of Louisville, Ky., Larry Wagener of Tulsa, Okla., Gene Wagener of Carrollton and Robert Wagener Jr. of Bethalto; two paternal aunts, Alice Gibson of Warrenton, Mo., and Mary Ann Bland of Prairietown; and a paternal uncle, Richard Hansen of Ellisville, Mo. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, the Rev. Robert and Truby Wagener and Tony and Louise Hansen; and an uncle, Donald Lee Wagener.
He had been a paper carrier for The Telegraph for five years and was recently a supervisor at Hardee's in Bethalto. He was on the junior varsity Civic Memorial High School Eagles baseball team, and during his Khoury League years he went to state several times.
Visitation was Friday at Elias-Smith Funeral Home in Bethalto, where funeral services were at 10 a.m. Saturday with Dr. Steven Jarett officiating. Burial was at Carrollton City Cemetery in Carrollton.

Paul Clement Hartwick, 57, of Carrollton was pronounced dead at 11:15 a.m. Friday, March 22, 1996, at the scene of a car/train accident near Carrollton.
Born July 15, 1938, near Kane, he was the son of Ada F. (Young) Hartwick of Carrollton, and the late Clement K. Hartwick. He married the former Jeanette Martin at Carrollton United Methodist Church Nov. 30, 1958, and she survives. Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter, Mrs. Tim (Debra) Schmidt of Woodson; three sons and a daughter-in-law, Donald Paul Hartwick of Danville, Doug and Janine Hartwick of Carrollton and Bill Hartwick of Jerseyville; six grandchildren, Racheal, Kara, Blaine and Trevor Hartwick and Timothy and Tyler Schmidt; three sisters, Doris Weber of Jacksonville, Mrs. Deneen (Virginia) Weber of Rockbridge and Mrs. Wayne (Martha) Sibley of Greenfield; and a brother, Francis E. Hartwick of Woodridge.
A member of the 1956 graduating class of Carrollton High School, Mr. Hartwick went to work for the United States Postal Service, retiring in 1992 after more than 30 years of service at the Carrollton Post Office. He also operated the family farm for many years. He was a member of the Carrollton United Methodist Church and church choir, a member and past master of Stuart E. Pierson Masonic Lodge, a member and past patron of the Kane Order of Easter Star Chapter and a member of the Greene County Farm Bureau.
Visitation was Sunday at Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in Carrollton, with Masonic rites at 8 p.m. The Rev. Terry Westerfield officiated at 2 p.m. funeral services Monday at Carrollton United Methodist Church. A quintet consisting of Bill Stendeback, John Langer, Bob Reif, Rodney Reif, and Tom Morgan sang, "Amazing Grace," "The Old Rugged Cross," and Heavenly Sunlight" accompanied by Pauline Langer.
Casketbearers were Richard Cordes, Dean Bland, Denny Cook, Tim Preston, Larry Gillingham, Lyndell Ornellas, Don Pranger and David Carr. Burial was at Carrollton City Cemetery.

Leona Yvonne Hillis, 63, died at 1:55 a.m. Monday, June 14, 2004, at Saint Anthony’s Health Center in Alton and went to be with the Lord after a yearlong battle with cancer. A daughter of Raymond and Lena (Goodman) Taylor, she was born Feb. 12, 1941, in Eldred.
She married Billie Hillis and they were later divorced. She was a vivacious, talkative, wonderful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, friend, aunt, cousin and niece, a loving person to everyone.
Surviving are six daughters, Janis Taulman and her husband, Max, of Brussels, Julia Lass and her husband, Rod, of Monroe City, Mo., Carmen McCoy and her husband, Tony, of Grafton, Lori Ann Dezkovich of White Hall, Crystal Hillis and her companion, Chuck, of Jerseyville, Dina Eminizer and her husband, Donald, of East Alton; two sons, James Hillis and his wife, Kelly, of Panama Bay City, Fla., and Anthony Hillis and his wife, Angie, of Jerseyville; 16 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; a brother and his wife, Alfred Wayne and Carol Taylor of Alton; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Leonard Ray and Raymond Daniel Taylor.
Graveside services will be conducted at 3:30 p.m. today at Carrollton City Cemetery.

Thomas S. Hough, 87, died unexpectedly at 10:48 a.m. Friday, Nov. 19, 2004, at Boyd Memorial Hospital in Carrollton. Born Oct. 21, 1917, in Carrollton, he was the son of Thomas C. and Jennie Eldred Hough. He married the former LaRue Wright on Sept. 28, 1946, in Carrollton. She survives.
He was a lifelong resident of Carrollton. He graduated from Carrollton High School in 1935 and from the University of Illinois in 1940 with a degree in business and finance. He served in the armed forces in World War II from 1941-1945, teaching members of the Army Air Corps how to fly fighter planes for combat using the Link Trainer System. He was very active in civic and charitable organizations in Carrollton for his entire life. He was able to enjoy a successful 70-year career at the Carrollton Bank, starting in 1934 while a junior in high school. He was president of the bank from 1963 to 2004 and was a member of the board of directors for many years up to the time of his death. He was an active, lifelong member of the Carrollton Presbyterian Church and will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
Also surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Larry and Ann Hough Kaplan of Wellesley, Maine, and John and Jeanne Hough Mulligan of St. Louis; a son and daughter-in-law, Thomas W. and Suzanne Hough of St. Louis; and seven grandchildren, Alex and David Kaplan, Tom and John Hough and Margaret, Jack and Sam Mulligan.
He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant sister, Ella Jane Hough; and a brother, Eldred W. Hough.

Ruth H. Johnson, 92, died of cancer at 2:35 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 21, 2004, at Reisch Memorial Nursing Home in Carrollton. She was born Jan. 14, 1912, in Boulder, Colo., to William B. and Laura (Powell) Harris. She married Alfred H. "Paddy" Johnson, who died in 1980.
She moved to Carrollton in 1942 when her husband bought the Carrollton Patriot newspaper. She assisted him in the newspaper until it was sold to the Carrollton Gazette in 1954. Later, she worked in the Carrollton High School as the bookkeeper for about 20 years. She retired from the school when her husband became ill.
She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and the P.E.O. She enjoyed bookkeeping and was the volunteer bookkeeper for the Carrollton Presbyterian Church and the food pantry until her recent illness. Earlier she had been a volunteer den mother in the Cub Scouts and was an active member of the PTA and similar organizations.
After her husband died, she moved to Virginia for about two years to be near family. She missed Carrollton and moved back, where she enjoyed the company of so many good friends and relatives. Barbara King Tuey treated her as if she was an honored member of her family. Tuey’s sister Adeline and her daughter helped her in so many ways in Carrollton and in Florida that the family will be forever in their debt.
She found she loved to travel. She visited China, Australia, New Zealand, Turkey and Israel in addition to numerous trips to England, Ireland and most of the countries in Europe. Her good friend and relative, Winifred "Faith" Burruss of St. Louis, was her traveling companion on these trips.
Surviving are a son and his wife, James E. and June Johnson of Fairfax, Va., and a grandson, David E. Johnson of Washington, D.C.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and a grandson, Ned A. Johnson, who died in 1994.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday at Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in Carrollton.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Carrollton Presbyterian Church.

Thayne King, 75, of Carrollton died at 9:30 a.m. Monday, Feb. 10, 1992, at Boyd Memorial Hospital in Carrollton.
Born in Carrollton March 10, 1916, son of Thomas G. and Ruby E. (Campbell) King, he married Laveta Crane on Aug. 24, 1947, in Carrollton. She survives.
Surviving in addition to his wife are one daughter Susan Cope of Carrollton; two sons, Ellie King of Huntsville, Tex., and Dru King of Grapevine, Tex.; two grandchildren, Chad Cope of Carrollton and Alex King of Grapevine, Tex.; and one brother, Elby King of Carrollton.
A World War II Army veteran, Mr. King was in the trucking industry for more than 50 years before retiring. He was a member of the Greene County Farm Bureau and the Carrollton First Baptist Church.
Visitation was Tuesday at Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in Carrollton where services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday with the Rev. Jerry Belden officiating.
Burial was in Carrollton City Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Father Flannigan's Boys Town in Omaha, Neb. or to the Carrollton First Baptist Church.

Freda McGuire, 98, died Friday, Oct. 22, 2004, at the White Hall Multicare Center in White Hall. She was born Dec. 29, 1905, in Hamburg to William and Mary Jane Lammy Weaver.
She married Frank McGuire on Sept. 17, 1927. He died Jan. 9, 1984.
She helped her husband farm for several years. She was a member of the Faith Baptist Church. She loved to quilt.
She is survived by two sons, Bernard and his wife, Helen, McGuire of Petersburg, Ill., and Robert Bruce and his wife, Linda, McGuire of Carrollton; 15 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and a daughter-in-law, Rosalyn McGuire of Jerseyville.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by four sons, Dick McGuire, Philip McGuire, Jerry McGuire and Harold Long; one daughter, Delores June Culat; two brothers, John and Joe Weaver; and one sister, Mary Elizabeth Burge.
Services will be private.
Memorials are suggested to the White Hall Multicare Center, Boyd Memorial Hospital or Blessing Hospice of Greene County.

LOOKING BACK...This week in history
1914 - 90 years ago (White Hall Register)
Jas. P. Morrow, a well-known retired hardware merchant of Carrollton, was found dead in his barn Wednesday, July 1 where he had gone for the purpose of shooting rats. As near as we have been able to learn, three shots were heard by his wife, who later went to the barn and found him dead. A coroner's inquest was held, the verdict being that he came to his death by an accidental gunshot. He was about 73 years of age.

Betty Joan Flatt Robinson, 71, died at 5:05 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 2, 2004, at Jerseyville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Jerseyville.
Born Jan. 6, 1933, on Cook’s Ranch near Eldred, she was the daughter of the late Paul and Edna Schudel Flatt. She married William M. Robinson on March 1, 1957. He died Feb. 21, 1992.
She always made time to volunteer for various things -- room mother, Brownie leader, Sunday school teacher, 4-H leader and Extension council -- and served as volunteer secretary for Greene County Rural Water. She worked beside her husband on the farm for many years and later worked as secretary for the Greene County Cooperative Extension Service. After retirement from the extension service, she worked part-time for The Job Center, where she continued to help people and make more friends.
Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Catherine and Robert Smith of Nebo and Patricia and Stephen C. Huff of Tokyo; three grandchildren, Steven and Travis Smith and Sydney Annemieke Huff; and a very special cousin, Helen Leanard of Springfield, Ill.
Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Monday at the Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in Carrollton, where services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday.
Burial will follow at Carrollton City Cemetery.

Mrs. Rosemary A. Schupmann, nee Goedde, longtime resident of Chicago, died Jan. 16, 2004, of complications resulting from a long battle with respiratory illness.
Born May 29, 1922, in Carrollton, she was the daughter of Christian and Minnie (Walter) Goedde. She married Gustav A. Schupmann M.D. in 1947, and he died in 1965.
Surviving are a sister, Lois Goedde Marx of Monticello; and a son, Gustav "Tavy" Schupmann of Tehachapi, Calif.
Mrs. Schupmann received her Associate of Arts degree from Monticello College in 1941 and her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Illinois in 1943 with a high school teaching certificate. She was confirmed in the Evangelical Lutheran Faith in June of 1948. She had a career in the radio broadcast industry, was Director of Housing for the University of Chicago for many years and retired as a property manager for the City of Chicago: Chicago Housing Authority.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 18 at the Carrollton City Cemetery.

Irene F. Shannon, 93, died at 6:13 a.m. Thursday, May 20, 2004, at Reisch Memorial Nursing Home in Carrollton.
Born Dec. 10, 1910, near Spanky, Ill., she was the daughter of the late George and Cora Darr Logan.
She married Harland Shannon on Feb. 18, 1937, in Jerseyville. He died Dec. 16, 1982.
She attended school in Spanky and later at Pacific Union School west of Carrollton. She loved her family and flower gardening. Her family was her life. She will be sadly missed.
Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Marilyn and Dean Walker of Greenfield and Judy and David Gonzales of White Rock, N.M.; a son and daughter-in-law, Bob and Sherryl Shannon of Carrollton; eight grandchildren, Sherry Kinser, Scott Walker, Jan Plogger, Lori McAdams, Amber Ford, Mark Gonzales, Carrie Atencio and Kara Kanallakan; 16 great-grandchildren; a sister, Mary Koster of Carrollton; and a brother, Manford Logan of Galesburg, Ill.
She was also preceded in death by a brother, Bob Logan; a sister Imogene Chevally; five stepbrothers, John and Bill Voiles, Roy, George and Otis Logan; and four stepsisters, Mamie Benner, Helen Wolfley, Fay Crabtree and Zelma Folger.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in Carrollton, where funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday.
Burial will be at Carrollton City Cemetery.

Walter H. "Jack" Whitlock, 83, died at 9:38 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 20, 2004, at Alton Memorial Hospital. Born Nov. 26, 1920, near Fidelity, he was the son of Peter and Rosa Thiel Whitlock.
He married the former Mary G. Black on Nov. 1, 1945, in Decatur. She survives.
He was a lifelong farmer. He served his country in World War II in the U.S. Navy as a signalman on the USS Idaho for 39 months in the Pacific. He was a member of the Baptist faith, a lifelong member of the American Angus Association and had served on the Greene County Fair board. He also sold DeKalb seed corn. He will be sadly missed.
In addition to his wife, survivors include three sons and two daughters-in-law, Ron and Pat Whitlock and Darrell and Barbara Whitlock, all of Carrollton, and Richard "Dick" Whitlock of Eustis, Fla.; seven grandchildren, Matt, Michelle, Charles, Phaedra, Rhonda, Clayton and Anna; and five great-grandchildren, Daniel, Luke, Alicia, Tyler and Taylor.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Edwin and Ralph; and three sisters, Irene Wagner, Helen Whitaker and an infant, Edith.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in Carrollton, where funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday. The Rev. Jon Lobos will officiate.
Burial will be in the Carrollton City Cemetery, with full military honors provided by the Carrollton American Legion.
Memorials may be made to the Eldred Baptist Church or the Mount Gilead Baptist Church.
