David Lee Carter

ST. LOUIS -- David Lee Carter, 62, formerly of Carrollton, died Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2001, at his home. Born Feb. 6, 1939, in Carrollton, he was a son of John David and Janet Burton Carter of Carrollton.

He married the former Barbara Jean Harvey March 18, 1961, in Murphysboro.

He married the former Bobbi Jean Johnston July 4, 1970, in Jacksonville. She preceded him in death.

A 1957 graduate of Carrollton High School, he graduated from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale in 1961. He was engaged in farming and livestock production in Carrollton for several years and owned the Palace Tavern and Restaurant in Hamburg. He also founded Specialty Waste Services and most recently owned and operated Aabott Asbestos Co. in St. Louis.

He was a member of the Carrollton United Methodist Church and the Ancient Free and Accepted. He attended Olive Branch Presbyterian Church in St. Louis and was active in restoration work in the Soulard neighborhood in St. Louis.

Also surviving are a daughter, Jolene Segura of Bethalto; two sons, John Carter of Bethalto and James Carter of Mehlville, Mo.; seven grandchildren; a sister, Jean Campbell of Godfrey; and two brothers, Roger Carter of Lawton, Iowa, and Jay Carter of St. Louis.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Carrollton United Methodist Church, where funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Monday.

Burial will follow in Carter Cemetery in Carrollton.

Memorials may be made to the Carrollton United Methodist Church.

Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home in Jefferson City, Mo., is in charge of the arrangements.
