HOFF, SAMUEL

Mr. And Mrs. Earl Hoff, who reside about three miles northwest of Kane, received word Friday that their son, Private First Class Samuel Hoff, 26, of the United states Army, was killed in action at Bouganville, Solomon Islands, on December 29, 1943. The message was received by Mr. and Mrs. Hoff through the Red Cross at Carrollton.

PFC Hoff entered the service over two years ago and had not been home during that time.

Surviving him in addition to his parents are three sisters, Mrs. Faye Wolfley and Mrs. Margaret Pierce of Alton, and Miss Doris Hoff at home, and two brothers, Robert Hoff, who resides at home, and Howard Hoff of Alton.

Notation: internment Carter cemetery. Was employed at the Alton Glassworks. The body was brought back July 02, 1948. He enlisted January 21, 1942. In the service three months before going overseas. He had been over twenty months. He was shot in the head when going to the aid of his buddies. In the Munda Campaign.
