CAFFERY, IRENE

Irene Caffery, 86, died Sunday, Feb. 27, 2005, at her home.

She was born July 31, 1918, in rural Roodhouse to Ralph R. and Zena Marie (Griffin) Caffery.

After 24 years of service at Mobil Chemical in Jacksonville, she retired in 1983. She loved farm life and especially enjoyed spending time with her family.

Surviving are a sister, Lois Caffery of Roodhouse; a brother, Carrol Caffery, and his wife, Ruth, of Delavan; two nephews; one niece; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Dean F. Caffery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Mackey Daws Funeral Home in Roodhouse, where funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Thursday.

Burial will be in Hickory Grove Cemetery near Wrights.

Memorials are suggested to Hickory Grove Cemetery or a charity of one’s choice.

DAMM, RICK L.

BRIGHTON -- Rick L. Damm, 44, died at 12:40 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2000, at his home.

Born Aug. 1, 1956, in Buffalo, Mo., he was a son of David and Katherine (Woodard) Damm of Carlinville.

The former Carlinville resident was owner-operator of an over-the-road tractor semi-trailer and was leased to Southern-Pride Trucking Co. in San Diego, Calif. The Army veteran had been a truck driver for 22 years. He loved the St. Louis Rams football team and his Harley-Davidson motorcycle.

He and the former Regina "Regi" Smith were united in marriage Dec. 31, 1987, in St. Petersburg, Fla. She survives.

In addition to his widow and parents, surviving are a son, Matthew Koehler of Haine City, Fla.; two stepsons, Ray Sutherland and Michael Sean Brophy, both of St. Petersburg, Fla.; three sisters, Debbie Eggemeyer of Ellis Grove, Brenda Damm of Medora and Shanda Weller of Palmyra; and several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Davis-Anderson Funeral Home in Carlinville, where the Rev. Tim Hunt will officiate at services at 10 a.m. Saturday.

Burial will follow in Hickory Grove Cemetery in Wrights.

Carlinville Area Hospital Hospice Unit has been named a memorial.

GUTHRIE SERVICES

Funeral services for Lee Gerald Guthrie, 76, of Roodhouse were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 27, at the Hickory Grove Baptist Church in Wrights with Dr. Allen Camp officiating, assisted by the Rev. Leonard Pinney. Lois Pembrook and Marie Lansaw sang "The Old Rugged Cross" and "In the Garden."

Casketbearers were Mark Pennell, Dale Dan, Jack Walker, Brad Price, Gene Cochran and Joe Killebrew. Burial was in Hickory Grove Cemetery in Wrights.

Mackey-Daws Funeral Home of Roodhouse was in charge of arrangements.


OVERBEY, RUBY M. THAXTON

Mrs. Ruby M. Overbey, 96, of Flora, formerly of Greenfield and Carlinville, died Thursday evening, March 31, 2005, at the Flora Healthcare Center.

She was born May 29, 1908, in Greene County, the daughter of Leslie and Effie (Handling) Thaxton. She married Thomas Franklin Overbey July 25, 1928, in Carlinville, and he died June 6, 1969.

She is survived by a daughter, Charlotte (husband Jerry) McKnight of Flora; three grandchildren, Curtis (wife Pat) McKnight of Morrisdale, Pa., and Jacque McKnight and Wayne (wife Vickie) McKnight of Flora; eight great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and two stepgreat-great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Mildred Zinn of St. Louis and Audrey Marshall of Jacksonville.

She was preceded in death by a granddaughter; three great-grandsons; a sister; and a brother.

Visitation was from 9 a.m. Tuesday at Shields Memorial Home in Greenfield, until funeral services at 11 a.m. with Curtis and Wayne McKnight officiating. Vicky McKnight served as organist and accompanied Mrs. Overbety's granddaughters, Katie Daniel and Lydia Colvin, as they sang, "No More Pain" and "In the Garden."

Casketbearers were Glenn Young, Kirby Young, David Colvin, Steven Daniel, Matthew McKnight, and Jon McKnight. Burial was at Hickory Grove Cemetery near Wrights.

Memorials are suggested to the First Baptist Church in Greenfield building fund.


SHAW, DORIS J. SMITH

Doris J. Shaw, 79, died at 1:45 a.m. Friday, April 1, 2005, at Alton Memorial Hospital. She was born Jan. 14, 1926, in White Hall to Charles W. and Agnus L. (Doyle) Smith.

She married Cecil LeRoy Shaw on March 6, 1943, in St. Charles, Mo. He died March 2, 1970.

She was a cook for Jemco Tow Boat for 15 years, retiring in 1991.

Survivors include one daughter-in-law, Nancy Shaw of Rosewood Heights; two sons, Michael Shaw and his wife, Charlene, of Rosewood Heights, and David Shaw and his wife, Beccie, of Katy, Texas; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Francis Shaw; and two sisters, Frances Edwards and Hilda Vorstad.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Marks Mortuary in Wood River, where the Rev. Dan Powers will conduct funeral services at 10 a.m. Tuesday.

Burial will be at Hickory Grove Cemetery in Wrights, Ill.

Memorials may be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.


WOODS, PAT

Pat Woods, 94, died at 4:22 p.m. Monday, Feb. 14, 2005, at Boyd Memorial Hospital in Carrollton.

Born west of Belltown on Dec. 17, 1910, he was a son of the late William Tony and Nellie (Beaucamp) Woods.

He married the former Marie Hodapp Stinnett on June 6, 1953, and she preceded him in death on March 4, 2004.

A farmer, he loved to fish, hunt and tell stories. He was a kind and gentle man who will be sadly missed.

Surviving are a stepdaughter, Katherine "Kitty" Bridgewater of Carrollton, nine stepgrandchildren, 15 stepgreat-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; two stepchildren, Bill Stinnett and Eula Jean Bertoni; two stepgrandchildren, Dean Bridgewater and Thomas Stinnett; two sisters, Helen Woods Ralston and Louise Woods Koster; and a brother, Troy Woods.

Visitation will be from 9:30 until time of funeral services at 11 a.m. Thursday at Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in Carrollton.

Burial will follow in Hickory Grove Cemetery near Wrights.

Memorials may be made to Boyd Memorial Hospital.
