LAKIN, EVELYN C. DESHASIER

Mrs. Evelyn C. Lakin, 85, of Berdan died at 2:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 20, 1995, at Boyd Memorial Hospital in Carrollton.

She was born Feb. 23, 1910, in Carrollton, the daughter of Harry and Josephine (Siemer) DeShasier. She married Charles Lakin Feb. 25, 1926, and he preceded her in death in 1975.

She is survived by five daughters, Mary Hughes of Walshville, Joyce Cummings of Rock Falls, Twyla Painter of Lincoln, Norma Mohn of Springfield and Janet Barlow of Berdan; seven sons, Raymond Lakin of Berdan, Glen Lakin and Elmer Lakin of Michigan, Neal Lakin of Maine, Harry L. Lakin and Lyndall Lakin of White Hall, and Terry Lakin of Georgia; several grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Louise Shaw of White Hall.

She was preceded in death by two sons, Royal Lakin and Randall Lakin; and three brothers, Charlie DeShasier, Harold DeShasier and Hap DeShasier.

Mrs. Lakin was a member of the Berdan Baptist Church.

Visitation was Monday at Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in Carrollton. Funeral services were at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Berdan Baptist Church, with the Rev. David Lawson officiating. Joe Lakin gave the eulogy. Prayer was offered by Tom Lakin, a grandson. Pianist Betty Carrico accompanied Janie Wright, Jeanie Fenton, Jo Horn, Jan Horn and June Jackson who sang, "When the Roll is Called Up Yonder," "The Old Rugged Cross," and "Lillie of the Valley."

Casketbearers were David Barlow, Charlie Hinds, Randall Lakin, Jeremy Wright, Sam Lakin, Nathan Lakin, Joe Cummings and James Painter II. Burial was at Hopewell Cemetery north of Carrollton.
