John Chapman

John Chapman, 97, of White Hall, died Saturday evening, Sept. 8, 2001, at Boyd Memorial Hospital in Carrollton.

He was born May 7, 1904, in Walkerville, the son of Willis and Addie McClellen Chapman. He married Goldie Meyer in 1927, and she preceded him death in 1985.

He is survived by three daughters, Fay Brown of Bunker Hill, Grayce Payne of Piedmont, Ky., and Jean Kincaid of Shipman; five sons, Thurman "Doc" of Hettick, Leonard of Shipman, George of Batchtown, Robert of Dorchester and Joe of Carrollton; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Ethel Jackson of Clinton, Ky., and two brothers, Willis and Virgil Chapman. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Rosa and Della Shaw; and six brothers, Orville, William, Harvey, Russell, Glendon and Vernon Chapman.

Mr. Chapman worked for many years at Olin Corp. in Alton, retiring in 1969.

Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in Carrollton, with burial at Eldred Memorial Gardens Cemetery near Eldred. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to a charity of the donor's choice.
