Margie L. Barrett, 89, of White Hall, died Monday, Oct. 25, 2004 at White Hall Multicare Center in White Hall.
She was born Aug. 27, 1915, in Greene County, the daughter of Roy Ernest and Florence Belle Jones Farmer. She married Eugene Edwards in 1938. She later married Howard W. Barrett Jan. 7, 1951 in Bluffs, and he preceded her in death.
She is survived by two sisters, Leta Dunlap and Hazel Bruce, both of White Hall; one brother, Earl W. Farmer of Everett, Wash.; five stepsons; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Louis and Leroy Farmer; one infant sister, Hilda Darlene; and one stepdaughter.
Mrs. Barrett was a homemaker who loved flowers, gardening and her dog. She worked for Capps Industry in Jacksonville for 20 years. She was a devoted member of the Jacksonville Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 28, at Mackey Daws Funeral Home in White Hall. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services. Thomas "Shorty" Clinton Bradford, age 57, of Westbank, La., formerly of Hillview, died Thursday, Sept. 23, 2004 in Louisiana.
He was the son of Arthur Thomas and Lucille Kessinger Bradford.
He married Sarah Elizabeth Wood Oct. 27, 1973 in White Hall and she survives.
He is also survived by his mother, Lucille Bradford of Alton; two daughters, Amanda Gabrielle Hannah Hall and Amber Nicole Littleton; one son, Jason Gabriel Bradford; three grandchildren; one brother, Thayne King Bradford of Kirkwood, Mo. and several aunts, uncles, a niece and many friends.
Mr. Bradford was a Westbank, La. resident for 13 years and was a U.S. Army veteran. He played Bluegrass music professionally for many years and was well known throughout the Midwest for his Bluegrass flat top guitar picking. He was a member of the Ames Boulevard Baptist Church in Marrero and attended the White Dove Fellowship in Harvey, La. An avid motorcyclist he was known as "Shorty" in the biker community and was known for the many vintage bikes he owned and rode. He was a member of the Antique Motorcycle Club of America.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, Oct. 1, 2004 at the Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in White Hall with burial at Pine Tree Cemetery near Patterson. Gene Brant, 79, of Roodhouse died Wednesday evening, Nov. 3, 2004, at Passavant Area Hospital in Jacksonville.
He was born Dec. 24, 1924, in Roodhouse, the son of Dewey and Alma (Griswold) Brant.
He is survived by two sons, Oren Brant of Shady Cove, Ore., and Gary Brant of Calif.; a daughter, Karen (husband Tom) Herbert of San Luis Obispo, Calif.; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a brother, Alvin Brant of Madison, Wis.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Janis Walker; a brother, Sam Brant; and a sister, Martha Pollard.
Mr. Brant served with the U.S. Navy in World War II and again during the Korean War. He was a self-employed painter.
Visitation was from 1 p.m. Tuesday at Mackey-Daws Funeral Home in Roodhouse, until funeral service time at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Bill Smith officiating.
Casketbearers were Jim Wear, Brenten Buchanan, Jim Rice, Rick Jones, Tim Swarringim and Clyde Swarringim.
Military rites were conducted by the White Hall VFW Post 7684 at Pine Tree Cemetery near Patterson. Assisting with the service were Kenny Crabtree, William Seymoure, Richard Hammon, Clem Coats, Jesse Young, Robert Dean, George McClure, Sam Taylor, Paul Cox, and Earl Spangenberg. Stephanie McNeely played "Taps" on the bugle.

Mrs. Wanda M. Brant, 76, of Hillview died Monday, Nov. 1, 2004, at her residence.
Born in Hillview Sept. 1, 1928, she was the daughter of Lloyd J. and Carrie (Young) Martin. She married Sam Brant Aug. 13, 1947, in Hillview, and he died April 15, 1996.
She is survived by one son, Richard Brant of Hillview; three daughters, Vicky (husband William) Matteson of Rutland, Vt., Patty (husband Rick) Jones of Roodhouse, and Denise Day of Greenfield; two grandchildren, Lisa McDade and William McDade; and two great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were one brother, Lloyd Martin; and three sisters, Genevieve Chapman, Carrie Margaret Dodd, and Helen Orton.
Mrs. Brant was member of the Hillview Baptist Church.
Friends called Wednesday at Mackey-Daws Funeral Home in White Hall from 1 p.m. until services at 2 p.m. Interment followed at Pine Tree Cemetery near Patterson.

James H. "Jim" Bridges, 73, of Roodhouse, died Monday, Sept. 27, 2004 at Christian Northeast Hospital in St. Louis.
He was born March 29, 1931, in White Hall, the son of Harvey and Rosella Summers Bridges. He married Virgie E. Savage March 11, 1950 in Jamestown, Kentucky. She survives in Roodhouse.
He is also survived by three sons, Michael (wife, Charlene) of Pittsburg, Texas, Terry (wife, Valerie) of Pekin, and Rick (wife, Kathy) of Roodhouse; one daughter, Debbie (husband, Gregg) Ratliff of Milledgeville, Ga; 10 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren; one sister, Delores (husband, Ray) Dunkleburger of San Diego, Calif.; and one niece and one nephew.
Mr. Bridges worked as a custodian at the Murrayville schools for 21 years. After he retired he and his wife managed the Greene County Golf Course for seven years. He was a past Master of the Manchester Masonic Lodge and past member of White Hall Masonic Lodge #80. He was of the Baptist faith.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 30 at Mackey Daws Funeral Home in Roodhouse. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 29 at the funeral home with family meeting friends from 6-8 p.m. Burial will be at Pine Tree Cemetery near Patterson. Mrs. Doris Lillian Camp, 88, of Roodhouse died Tuesday morning, Sept. 14, 2004, at White Hall Multicare Center.
She was born March 6, 1916, in Patterson, the daughter of Earl Lloyd and Nona Belle (Carriger) Fry. She married George Ray Camp Sept. 16, 1934, in Pearl, and he died June 1, 1973.
She is survived by two sons, Steve (wife Carolyn) Camp of Roodhouse and Dave (wife Beth) Camp of Arthur; a daughter, Marla (husband Ray) Layton of Peoria; 14 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Betty (husband K.E. Blackie) Jackson of Roodhouse.
Preceding her in death were a sister, Lavone Fry; and a brother, Earl Fry, Jr.
Mrs. Camp was a member of many organizations during her life including the First Baptist Church of Roodhouse, Mother Advisor of the Rainbows, Eastern Star, Women's Club, DAR and the American Legion Auxiliary. She retired from the Roodhouse Envelope Company and was employed for several years at Mackey-Daws Funeral Home in Roodhouse.
Visitation was Thursday at Mackey-Daws Funeral Home in Roodhouse. Funeral services were at 11 a.m. Friday at the First Baptist Church in Roodhouse with the Rev. Gerald Phillips and the Rev. Bill Baughman officiating. Organist Glenda Dennis played "Because He Lives" and "Beautiful Hour of Prayer" and accompanied the congregation as they sang "When They Ring Those Golden Bells."
Casketbearers were Brian Camp, Wayne Simmons, Kirk Yates, Mike Yates, Bb Cummins and Charles Burrus. Honorary bearers were Larry Ford, John Todd and Ron Martin. Burial was at Pine Tree Cemetery near Patterson.

Opal Mae Crabtree, age 95, of Brighton, formerly of White Hall, died Thursday, Sept. 30, 2004 at Robings Manor in Brighton, where she had been a resident since 1995.
She was born June 27, 1909 near Patterson, the daughter of Curtis Lee and Mary Ellen Coates Dawdy.
She married Rainey Crabtree July 29, 1929 in Patterson and he preceded her in death Jan. 5, 1976.
She is survived by a nephew, Bernard (wife, Nadasha) Dawdy of O'Fallon, Mo.; three nieces, Anita Guinn of Odessa, Texas; Lyla DeVerge and Sue Springfloat, both of Springfield and several great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Harley and Orvis Dawdy; an infant sister, Gracie and one niece, Marjorie O'Donoghue.
Mrs. Crabtree became a Christian at an early age and was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church.
Graveside services were held at 1 p.m. Monday, Oct. 4, 2004 at Pine Tree Cemetery with Rev. Bill Smith officiating. Pallbearers were Everett Dawdy, Joe Dawdy, Ronnie Killebrew, Bernard Dawdy, Cloyd Hazelwood and Ronnie Springfloat. Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in White Hall was in charge of arrangements.

Jennetta Beams Dawdy, 94, of White Hall died Sunday, August 1, 2004 at Barton W. Stone Christian Home in Jacksonville. She was born November 9, 1909 in Green County, Kentucky the daughter of George and Georgia Mears Lewis. She married Eugene Beams December 24, 1928 in Kentucky and he preceded her in death August 16,1965. She later married Vern Wear and Ivan Dawdy and they both preceded her in death.
She is survived by two children; one daughter, Virgene Wyatt of Jacksonville and one son, Albert L. (wife, Pauline) Beams of Hillview; four grandchildren, Dennis (wife, Victoria) Greening of Des Moines, Maxine (husband, Ron) Asher of Kankakee, Allen (wife, Kathy) Beams of Jacksonville and Michael Beams of St. Louis; six great-grandchildren, Chad, Ryan and Jodi Greening and Bryan, Adam and Samantha Beams; one great-great-grandson, Caden Greening; several step-grandchildren; one brother George H. (wife, Doris) Lewis of Clermont, Fla. and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Anna Mary Nichols and one brother, Grady Elmore (surviving wife, Velma of Springfield) and her step-mother who raised her, Ella Lewis.
She was a Homemaker and her family and church were the light of her life. She was a member of the Hillview Baptist Church for over 40 years and for many of those years taught Sunday School and Bible School. She was a longtime member of WMU and was involved in Home Extension. She enjoyed crafts and traveled worldwide, having spent over 40 winters in Florida
Funeral services were held Wednesday, August 4, at the Hillview Baptist Church with burial at Pine Tree Cemetery near Patterson.

Sharon Lee Ford, 55, of White Hall, died Tuesday evening, June 8, 2004 at Passavant Area Hospital in Jacksonville.
She was born Sept. 17, 1948 in Carrollton, the daughter of Albert Russell and Helen Wild Wallis.
She married Oren Guy Ford May 28, 1966 at Martin's Prairie Church east of Roodhouse and he survives.
She is also survived by one daughter, Peggy Sue Ford (fiance, Craig Hetzer) of Roodhouse, one son, Bradley Oren Ford of White Hall, her father, Russell Wallis and his wife, Ruth of White Hall; two step grand-children, Austin and Alicia and one brother, Jimmy (wife, Brenda) Wallis of Marion. She was preceded in death by her mother.
She was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church in White Hall where she was active in the nursing home services and the Women's Missions. She was the assistant song leader and a Sunday School teacher. She enjoyed her flowers, watching the birds and Christian music.
Funeral services for Sharon Ford were held at 11 a.m. Friday, June 11, at the Calvary Baptist Church in White Hall with Revs. Kenny Epperson and Ken Barger officiating. Tracy Epperson read a poem. Vocalist Jeanette Weber sang "Whispering Hope" and the congregation sang "Peace In The Valley", accompanied by organist Tammy Winters. Pallbearers were Dale Ford, Sam Ford, Charles Ford, John Ford, Jeff Wallis, Robert Wallis, Michael Wallis and Jonathon Wallis. Burial was at the Pine Tree Cemetery near Patterson. Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in White Hall was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Orlena E. Goacher, 87, of Mascoutah died Wednesday, Aug. 4, 2004, at St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Belleville.
She was born Dec. 17, 1916, in Patterson, the daughter of Don and Edith (Nichols) Leach. She married Clyde E. Goacher Aug. 17, 1937, in Bowling Green, Mo., and he died Sept. 6, 1989.
She is survived by two sons, Gary (wife Barb) Goacher of Taylorville and Ron (wife Carla) Goacher of Millstadt; four daughters, Sharon (husband Robert) Stephenson of Clinton, Edie (husband Gary) Webb of Peoria, Ariz., Dixie (husband Stan) McNeme of Atlanta and Mary Goacher of St. Louis; 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Maudie McGlasson of White Hall.
Preceding her in death were two brothers; a sister; and a grandchild.

Harold T. King, age 73, of Roodhouse, died Saturday evening, Oct. 2, 2004 at Passavant Area Hospital in Jacksonville.
He was born Oct. 12, 1930 in Eldred, the son of Elmer and Lena Taylor King.
He married Vera L. Bunting on Dec. 21, 1955 in Hernando, Miss. and she survives.
He is also survived by one son, Tim (wife, Julie) King of Olathe, Kan.; three daughters, Kristin Lindgren of Waverly; Kimberly (husband, John) Arnoldi of Decatur; and Elizabeth (friend, Toby Roberts) King of White Hall; 12 grandchildren, Heather (husband, Pat) Anstedt; Geoffrey King; Katie Lindgren; Becky Lindgren; Andrew King; John King; Daniel King; Matthew King; Michael Arnoldi; Jennifer Arnoldi; Gracey Roberts and Kerry Roberts; one great granddaughter, Taylor Anstedt; one sister, Ardene Bushnell of Roodhouse; one stepsister, Marian Scott of White Hall and two stepbrothers, Fred and Don Bertram, both of Robinson. He was preceded in death by one brother, Eugene King.
Mr. King was a graduate of White Hall High School Class of 1948. He served from 1948 to 1968 in the U.S. Navy in the Submarine Service. After he retired from the Navy he worked for the U.S. Post Office in San Diego, Calif. before moving to Roodhouse in 1974 and becoming the postal carrier at White Hall until his retirement in 1988. He loved and enjoyed his children and grandchildren. He was a member of the Bryant-Thomas American Legion Post 1210 in Hillview.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 6, 2004 at the Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in White Hall with burial at the Pine Tree Cemetery near Patterson. Howard "Gummer" Landreth, 87, of Roodhouse, died early Monday morning, Dec. 13, 2004, at Jersey Community Hospital in Jerseyville.
He was born Feb. 5, 1917, in Roodhouse, the son of John William and Mary Alice Fleming Landreth. He married Marie Kathryn Christian in Bowling Green, Mo. on May 3, 1941. She survives in Roodhouse.
He is also survived by one daughter, Mary Alice (husband, Ed) Thien of Niceville, Fla.; three grandchildren, Mike (wife, LeAnn) Thien of Jeanette, Penn., Howie Thien of Fort Walton Beach, Fla. and Kathryn (husband, Charlie) Blount of Bainbridge, Ga.; six great-grandchildren; one brother, Ivy Landreth of Roodhouse. He was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Patty and Cindy; and four brothers, Francis, Hugh, Virgil and John.
Mr. Landreth and his wife also raised two girls in their home, Dorothy Dawdy, deceased (surviving husband, Jim Dunham) and Judy Dawdy (husband, Andy Mullens). The two girls had a total of six children and the Landreths considered the Dawdy girls, their husbands and children part of the family.
Mr. Landreth was a 50 plus year member of the AFL and worked construction. He enjoyed fishing, camping and teasing everyone. He will be remembered as being the best husband and dad anyone could have.

Leo Sam Osborne, 80, of Roodhouse died Saturday evening, Oct. 30, 2004, at his residence.
He was born July 28, 1924, in Roodhouse, the son of Charles and Eva (Brown) Osborne. He married Doris Powell Miller Feb. 16, 1949, in Roodhouse, having this year celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary, and she survives.
Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter, Ruth Ann (husband Larry) Wyatt of El Paso, Ark.; eight grandchildren, Marty Kitsmiller, Monte Kitsmiller, Robby McGee, Kent McGee, Starla McClenning, Terry Wyatt, Monica Patrom and Lance Wyatt; 20 great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Iola Basham of Murrayville, Viola Seymour of Rock Island and Dorothy Jones of Roodhouse.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda McGee; three brothers, Kenny Osborne, Ed Osborne, Henry Osborne, and twins Harlan Osborne and Harley Osborne; and two sisters, Donna Steckel and Betty Willis.
Mr. Osborne entered the U.S. Army in October off 1944. Following basic training at Camp McClennan, Ala., he transferred to the Army Air Force. He served at Camp Stoneman, Calif., the Philippines, and Guam before transferring to Belleville. In December 1949 he was honorably discharged as a sergeant and received the World War II victory medal. He served as Quartermaster of the VFW Post in Roodhouse, was a member of the Roodhouse American Legion and was a charter member of the New Life Church in White Hall. He worked as a carpenter and contractor in Roodhouse and the surrounding communities for many years. He also worked as a truck driver for several different companies and also owned and operated his own truck.
Visitation was Tuesday at Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in Roodhouse, where funeral services were at 2 p.m. Wednesday. Burial was at Pine Tree Cemetery, near Patterson.

Former White Hall resident Mrs. Edith "Juanita" Pembrook, 87, of New Berlin died Saturday morning, Dec. 18, 2004, at St. John's Hospital in Springfield.
She was born Nov. 8, 1917, in Hillview, the daughter of Charles Newton and Sarah (Reese) Settles. She first married Buell Martin Nov. 30, 1935. She later married Leland Pembrook May 6, 1947, in White Hall, and he died Sept. 29, 1998.
She is survived by two daughters, Reta (husband Roy) Borg of Chatham and Neala Martin of Riverton; a son, Jim (wife Angela) Pembrook of Chatham; eight grandchildren; a great-grandson; a sister, Lena (husband Carl) Grindstaf of East Alton; five brothers, Charles (wife Evelyn) Settles and Joy (wife Shirley) Settles of Carrollton, Kenneth (wife Nancy) Settles of Dow, Paul Settles of Jerseyville, and Glenn (wife Joan) Settles of White Hall; and a brother-in-law, Jesse Haven.
Mrs. Pembrook was preceded in death by two sisters, Geraldine Haven and Mary I. Jones; and two brothers, Lawrence Settles and Everett Settles.
Mrs. Pembrook took care of raising 50 foster children over 22 years. She worked for Twin Cities Manufacturing for many years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of White Hall and the VFW Auxiliary 7684 (serving as president from 1956-1957).
Visitation was from 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in White Hall, until funeral service time at 10:30 a.m. Burial was at Pine Tree Cemetery, near Patterson.

Mrs. Bessie Deanna Piper, 84, of White Hall died Sunday morning, Nov. 21, 2004, at St. John's Hospital in Springfield.
She was born March 24, 1920, in Patterson, the daughter of Marvin Lewis "Boon" and Myrtle Alma Lawson Forrester. She married George Piper Oct. 1, 1938, in Bowling Green, Mo., and he died in 1997.
She is survived by a daughter, Carolyn (husband Allen Jay) Daniels of Roodhouse; two grandchildren, Wayne Daniels and Kendra Hougland; two great-grandchildren; a brother, Keith Forrester of Roodhouse; and a sister, Audrey Terrell of Popular Bluffs, Mo.
Preceding her in death were a brother, Donald Forrester; a sister, Dora Owings; and a grandson, Robyn Lynn McClure.
Mrs. Piper was a member of the White Hall VFW and White Hall Red Cross. She was employed at Twin City Manufacturing in White Hall, White Hall Bunn-O-Mattic and Teksonic Manufacturing in Jacksonville before her retirement.
Visitation was from 10 a.m. Wednesday at Mackey-Daws Funeral Home in Roodhouse, until funeral services at 11 a.m. Burial was at Pine Tree Cemetery near Patterson.

Charles Homer Roberts, 93, of Sullivan, formerly of White Hall, died Sunday, Aug. 22, 2004, at St. Mary's Hospital in Decatur.
He was born Oct. 18, 1910, in Greene County, the son of Herman and Ethel (Ballard) Roberts. He married Hazel Yates of Sullivan and they had one daughter. They divorced, and he later married Louella Mae Enlow Cooper of Decatur Oct. 7, 1961, in White Hall, and she died Aug. 27, 1982.
He is survived by a daughter, Mary Hadden of Sullivan; a stepson, Steve Cooper of Springfield, Mass.; three grandchildren, Jamie McArthur (fiancee Helena Maranviale) Rikkie (husband Quentin) Ray and Charles McArthur; eight great-grandchildren; a brother, Art Roberts of Pana; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were three brothers; and two sisters.
Mr. Roberts retired from Illinois Power Company of Decatur. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge for over 50 years and was a longtime member of the I.B.E.W. Union Local 51. He was a World War II Army veteran and served in Germany.
Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Pine Tree Cemetery near Patterson with Masonic rites by White Hall Masonic Lodge 80 and military rites by White Hall VFW Post 7684.

Helen Glenna Rodgers, 86, of White Hall, and formerly of the Carrollton and Roodhouse areas, died Wednesday evening, June 23, 2004, at White Hall Multicare Center in White Hall.
She was born April 5, 1918, near Hillview, the daughter of Owen and Cecil Katie Dawdy. She married James Henry Rodgers on March 18, 1961, in Carrollton, and he preceded her in death Oct. 25, 1994.
She is survived by one sister, Eileen Grafton of Roodhouse; and several nieces, nephews and extended family members. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Russell and Guy Dawdy; two sisters, Stella Surbeck and Hazel Flatt; and five brothers and sisters in infancy.
Mrs. Rodgers was a member of the Wilmington Baptist Church in Patterson.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at Mackey Daws Funeral Home in Roodhouse, with burial at Pine Tree Cemetery near Patterson. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until time of services Saturday at the funeral home. Condolences may be left for the family online at www.mackeydaws.com.

Shirley J. Westnedge, 90, of White Hall died Saturday May 29, 2004 at 9:55 a.m. at Reisch Memorial Nursing Home in Carrollton. Born in Mt. View, Mo. Aug. 5, 1913, he was the son of the late Joseph and Charlotte Odem Westnedge. Oct. 4, 1935 he married the former Glyndola Castleberry and she survives.
Also surviving are a daughter and son-in-law: Karon and Gary Fitzjarrell of White Hall; three grandchildren: Shirleyn (husband Vince) Lamberti of White Hall, Shawn (husband Randy) Ford of Winchester and Gary Dean Fitzjarrell of White Hall; three great-grandchildren: Kearsta, Brenton and Taylor.
He was preceded in death by three brothers and one sister.
He was a member of the White Hall Christian Church since 1937. He served in the Civilian Conservation Corps during WWII. He was a past member of the White Hall Fire Dept. and served as chief on and off for 38 years. He was a 1934 graduate of White Hall High School. He served as an alderman in the first ward in White Hall.
He worked at Gregory Laboratory, which later changed to Affiliated Laboratory and later Smith Cline-Beecham (now known as Pfizer) from 1937 until retirement in 1978. He loved to fish and work with his hands. He loved his family and always thought of others first.
Graveside rites were held Tuesday at 6 p.m at Pine Tree Cemetery near Patterson. Memorials may be made to Pine Tree Cemetery, White Hall Christian Church or the American Cancer Society. Condolences may be left online at www.airsman-hires.com.
