Gazette-Patriot, Carrollton, Ill., Thursday, August 28, 2003, from an article about the "Greene County Days" activities: This small cemetery is located on a little knoll in the middle of a pasture about a half mile down a field road on the farm of Steven Hicks. Land for the cemetery was donated by John Ruyle, whose daughter, Martha Barnard, was the first recorded burial in 1847. A tornado in the 1920s damaged some trees and stones of the cemetery, which is maintained by Steven Hicks. The cemetery also has been surveyed by a state botanist, who found some endangered plant species such as prairie trout lilies and cat's paws. Some surnames that can be found in the cemetery include Austin, Barnard, Butcher, Calhoun, Dorks, Edwards, Ferguson, Griffith, Herron, Hicks, Jones, Jackson, Lewis, McCleeland, Munzebrock, Pace, Powar, Rhodes, Roberts, Ruyle, Sanders, Smith, Stinnett, Turner, Waddell, Waters, Wayman, Weaver, Whitlock, Wilder and Wyatt. Don & Terry Barnard re-visited this cemetery during February 2010 to transcribe the stones they could find in the cemetery. Don said there were at least two additional stones which were face down and frozen to the ground which they couldn't read. He went on to say that they would go back in the spring to probe and see if they could find any additional stones which weren't found during this trip. This cemetery occupies a hilltop site in Athensville Township. It is about one-fourth mile north of the roadway, which is a good road that goes east out of Athensville.

				Nov. 29, 1836, died in a Chicago hospital on or about
				Jan. 28, 1908 and buried in an unmarked grave on the
				Hopper lot in Gillespie, IL cemetery.)
