LeRoy Hanlin, aged 74 years, 6 months and 9days, died at his home in the southeast part of White Hall at 6:30 a.m., Saturday, November 19, 1921, after an illness of about nine months with cancer.

He was a son of John and Martha Cardwell-Hanlin and was born at Carlinville, Ill., June 10 1847. He resided in Macoupin and Jersey counties until August 1918, when he came to White Hall which has since been his home. He was a farmer and was a man of quiet, retiring disposition, attended strictly to his own affairs and was highly regarded by a large circle of friends.

In 1867 he and Miss Melissie Munday were married and to this union were born two children---Mrs. Julia Surbeck of Hillview vicinity, and Emma, wife of Phillip Bermes of White Hall. His first wife died August 10, 1872, May 11, 1876, he and Miss Mary Shenefeld, who survives, were married and to this union were born two children, all of whom survive as follows---Robert Hanlin of Fieldon; Guy Hanlin of Roseville and Evert Hanlin of Jerseyville; Cora, wife of George Briggs and Mrs. Clara buck, reside at Alton; Maude, wife of Mark VanMeter of Jerseyville; Eva, wife of Ralph Luttrell of Springfield; Maggie, wife of Ed. Randell, Lola, wife of Arthur Thompson and Mrs. Pearl McQuality of White Hall.

Joseph Cole and Mrs. Clara Jinkins both of Melrose, Minnesota, are half brother and half sister of the deceased. There are 39 grand children and 17 great-grand children, besides a host of other relatives and friends.

A number of years ago he was converted to the Christian religion and was a member of the Christian church at the time of his death. Rev. Chas. M. Ross, pastor of the Christian church, conducted funeral services at the late residence at 2:00 p.m., Monday, Nov. 21st. The pallbearers were Edward Ross, J. H. Neece, Richard Heberling, Warren Thompson, William Mullens and Samuel Rigg. Interment was made in the White Hall cemetery.
