HAVLIN, BRADY

FUNERAL SERVICES FOR BRADY HAVLIN 54, HELD TUESDAY, DECEMBER 24.

Funeral services for Brady Havlin, 54, well-known orchestra leader throughout Central Illinois, were held Tuesday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock at the First Baptist Church in this city. The services were in charge of Rev. L. D. Gregory, assisted by Rev. Ben A. Bahn, and interment was in the White Hall Cemetery.

The deceased died suddenly Saturday night at Palmyra, Illinois, where the orchestra had just arrived to fill an engagement. His death was attributed to a heart attack. The musicians has arrived at Palmyra and parked their cars when Havlin complained of feeling ill. A doctor was summoned, but Havlin died before the physician arrived.

The Havlin orchestra was popular throughout Central Illinois, playing for many engagements in surrounding cities and communities. Havlin was noted for his peculiar style of playing the violin, holding the instrument in the region of his armpit rather than at his shoulder.

The deceased was a native of Cincinnati, Ohio. In recent years he has engaged in farming west of White Hall in addition to his orchestra work.

The decedent is survived by his wife Grace May Havlin, a son Clarence Leland; his mother, Mrs. Mary E. Havlin; six sisters, Mrs. Paul Kranser, Indianapolis; Mrs. Sarah White, St. Louis; Mrs. Adda Batty, White Hall, Mrs. Margaret Watson, Indianapolis; Mrs. Loretta Retherford, and Mrs. Delia Havlin; White Hall; four brothers, Charles, Bourbon, Ind., Henry, Raymond and Oscar Havlin, all of Indianapolis. There is one grandchild.

BRADY HAVLIN, 54, LEADER OF DANCE ORCHESTRA, DIES.

White Hall-- Brady Havlin, 54 years old, leader of a popular orchestra, died suddenly form a heart attack Saturday night at Palmyra where the orchestra has just arrived to fill an engagement. Havlin, a violinist, resides west of White Hall.

The musicians drove into Palmyra and parked their cars shortly before a dance was to begin. Havlin complained of feeling ill, but died before a physician arrived.

The Brady Havlin Orchestra played many engagements in Central Illinois. Havlin possessed a peculiar style of playing, holding his violin in the region of his armpit rather than to his shoulder.

He was a native of Cincinnati, O. He farmed west of White Hall in addition to his orchestra work.

Surviving are his wife, Grace May Havlin, one son, Clarence Leland; mother, Mrs. Mary E. Havlin, six sister and four brothers, Mrs. Paul Kranser, Indianapolis, Ind., Mrs. Sarah White, St. Louis; Mrs. Adda Batty, White Hall; Mrs. Margaret Watkins, Indianapolis; Mrs. Loretta Retherford, and Miss Delia Havlin, White Hall; Charles, Bourbon, Ind.; Henry, Raymond and Oscar, all of Indianapolis. There is one grandchild.

The remains are at the Dawdy Funeral Home in White Hall, and will be taken to the residence Monday afternoon.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon at 2o'clock at the White Hall First Baptist church. Rev. L. D. Gregory will officiate assisted by Rev. Ben Bohn. Interment will be made in White Hall Cemetery.

GRACE ALEXANDER OF WHITE HALL DIES; RITES WEDNESDAY

White Hall - Grace M. Alexander, 86, of White Hall, was dead of arrival at White Hall Hospital Sunday, Oct. 24. She was born Sept. 25, 1896, in Greene County, daughter of John York and Sarah Sharpe Dyer. She was married to Glen S. Alexander and he survives.

Also surviving are one son, Clarence L. Havlin, of White Hall, two grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Two sisters, Mrs. Nita Wood of Waverly and Mrs. Frances Bracewell of Murrayville, also survive.

She was a member of the White Hall V. F. W. Auxiliary.

Services will be 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in White Hall. Internment will be in White Hall Cemetery. Friends may call 4 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, where family will receive friends 7 to 9 p.m. V. F. W. Auxiliary services will be 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

CLARENCE HAVLIN, 74, OF WHITE HALL DIES White Hall - Clarence L. Havlin, 74, of White Hall died early Sunday Morning, Sept. 3, at his residence. He was born Jan. 21, 1915, in Ceres, a son of Clarence Brady and Grace Dyer Havlin. He marries Frances Ashmore on June 29, 1971, in Jacksonville. She survives. Also surviving are two sons, Donald W. Havlin of Bluffs and Clarence Brady Havlin of Alton; three grandchildren, Letha Havlin of Jacksonville and Patrick B. Havlin and James Havlin, both of Alton. He was preceded in death by one son, John. Mr. Havlin graduated from White Hall High School in 1932 and attended Gem City Business College and Rankin Trade School. He was a member of Local 313 Machinists' Lodge at Granite City. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in White Hall. Burial will be in White Hall Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the heart fund.

Havlin services held

Services for Clarence Havlin were held 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 5, at Airsman - Hires Funeral Home in White Hall, with the Rev. William Martin officiating. Vocalist was Christie Haloszka, who sang "In The Garden." Organist was Jean Coates, who played "How Great Thou Art." Pallbearers were Donnie Talkington, Harold Brimm, Gary Stevens, William Haloszka, Kyle Phares and Earl Smith. Burial was in White Hall Cemetery.

Obituary
Roodhouse

James M. Havlin, Jr., aged 72 years, 8 months and 13 days, died at his home at 6:00 a.m., Saturday morning, Sept. 21, 1929. Those surviving him are: his wife, 3 sons Edgar, Willis and Lawrence, all of Roodhouse, 2 daughters, Nellie and Garneitta of Roodhouse, 4 brothers George of Indiana, Albert of Palatine, Ill., Warren of St. Louis and Charley of Berdan. There is also one sister, Mrs. Hattie Smith of Mexico, Missouri. The funeral was Monday afternoon at 2 PM at the home and burial was made in the White Hall Cemetery.

Mrs. Lawrence Havlin

Mrs Cecil Overby -- Havlin, aged 24 years, 11 months and 26 days, wife of Lawrence Havlin, died at her home on Israel Street in the east part of town 7 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 9, 1923, after a brief illness with peritonitis.

She was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Overby of this city and had resided here all her life. Beside the husband and parents she is survived by several brothers and sisters.

Rev L. E. Ellison conducted funeral services at the First Baptist church at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday after which interment was made in the White Hall Cemetery.

RESIDENT, DIES

WHITE HALL -- Harold (Jack) Havlin, 43, former resident at White Hall, passed away at 9:10 a.m. Thursday at the Veterans Research hospital in Chicago where he had been a patient.

He lived in White Hall until ten years ago when he moved to Hammond, Ind.

Born March 24, 1920, in Greene county, he was the son of Lawrence and Cecil Overby Havlin. His father survives of Greenfield. He was raised in the home of his maternal grandparents, the late Mr. and Mrs. John Overby, White Hall. He was married October 20, 1939 to Eileen Painter, who survives.

Also surviving is a daughter, Ellen; Twin sons, Gary Dean and Larry Gene, all at home; four half sisters, Mrs Ruth Dessert, Green Bay, Wisc.; Mrs Donna Hardiman and Mrs. Virginia Butler, both of Hammond, Ind. and Mrs. Neta Bell Land, Knox, Ind.; one step-brother, Charles Covington, with the US air force in Florida; one step-sister, Mrs. Shirley DeWease, Black Oak, Ind.

He was a veteran of World War II.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday from the White Hall First Baptist church. Burial will be in White Hall cemetery with military rites.
