MRS. WM. SMITH
Mrs. Wm. Smith aged about 75 years died at her home two miles southwest of Barrow, at 9:00 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 12. Rev Thos. Marsh of Upper Alton conducted funeral services at the Barrow church 11:00 o'clock Thursday morning. Interment was made in Edwards cemetery.
Her maiden name was Ballard. The late A. J. Ballard of this city was a brother of the deceased. She was born in this county and resided here all her life. Her only surviving sister is Mrs. Margaret Smith widow of the late Robt. Smith of Lamar, Ark.
Besides the husband who is 83 years of age, she is survived by four children, Malinda, wife of Patrick Short of Roodhouse, Jno. of Barrow vicinity, James who makes his home with his parents, and Mittie wife of Albert Vaughn, residing on a farm adjoining the old homestead.
For many years Mrs. Smith had been a faithful member of the Baptist church of Barrow, and until her health failed was one of the most regular communicants.

Obituary
Mrs. Harriet A. Ballard, daughter of Avery and Annie Ballard, was born March 23d, 1835, at the old home near Oak Grove, Greene County, Ill., and died at her home near Barrow Dec 13, 1910, aged 75 years 8 months and 20 days.
She married to William Smith Dec. 5th, 1850. The fruits of this union was five children, four of which survive the mother namely. John and James of near Barrow, Malinda, wife of Patrick Short. Mittie, wife of Albert Vaughn, and Laura A. Brickey who died March 31, 1890.
Sister Smith was converted in early life and united with the Old Salem Baptist church then located in Patterson. Later she became a charter member of the Baptist church at Barrow and remained a faithful member until removed by death.
Sister Smith was a faithful wife, an affectionate mother and devoted Christian. She leaves an aged husband, four children, nineteen grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends to mourn their loss. The funeral sermon was preached by Rev. T. N. Marsh, a life long friend of the family, in the presence of a very large congration. Interment in the Edwards cemetery.
