John Leo Quirk, 82, died at 5:52 a.m. Friday, March 9, 2007, at Saint Anthony's Hospital in Alton. He was born April 28, 1924, in Kemper, Ill., to John H. and Mary Josephine (Kirsch) Quirk. He married Sallie Quirk on Dec. 10, 1969. She died Nov. 15, 1992.
A U.S. Army World War II veteran, he was a carpenter for Wood River Local 377. He is survived by a stepdaughter, Juiquita Bourland of Peoria, Ariz.; two stepsons, Otto Woods Jr. of Brighton and Jerry Woods of Charlotte, Mich.; seven grandchildren, Dawn Vaughn, Jason Bourland and Josh, Trevor, Heather, Amber and Sara Woods; several great-grandchildren; two sisters, Veronica Waltrip of Brighton and Mary Maupin of Alton; and two brothers and their wives, Louis and Barb Quirk of Medora and Paul and Geneva Quirk of Shipman. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Eric Bourland.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Targhetta and Wooldridge Funeral Home in Brighton, where services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday. Father William Hembrow will officiate.
Burial will be at Asbury Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.
