DOSS GRAVE South Palmyra Township, T11 N, R 8W Macoupin County, Illinois
The Doss Grave is a lone burial beside the road in Macoupin County, Illinois. The story
is told that the roads were so bad the day of his funeral that the funeral party
couldn't make it to the cemetery so they buried him beside the road. Note: Another long-time researcher from the
area indicates that in fact, Mr. Doss owned the land on which he is buried and that burial was made here at
his request. His government marker
and burial plot has a chain linked to small posts set in concrete surrounding the grave. When Earl Deatherage and I
visited this site right before Memorial Day, it was mowed and flowers and flags decorated his grave.
