Macoupin County, Illinois

The book "TOMBSTONE REVELATIONS in Macoupin County, Illinois", compiled and printed by the Macoupin County Historical Society Committee had this to say about this cemetery: "Young Cemetery, also called Thompson Cemetery and Strate Cemetery, was originally laid out by James Young for the benefit of the Young family. No actual deed for the cemetery has been found but in the sale of the land an exception for the cemetery is listed in the deed. In 1919 it was incorporated and undersigned by J.N. Berry, W. A. Young, William Whitley, J.H. Vance and W.O. Clevenger. In trying to survey this cemetery in 1979 it was so overgrown it was impossible to walk through. Thelma Dean Zelmer Stewart and Velma Sonneborn, along with some local neighbors and their chain saws completely cleared what they thought was the burial area. Several stones were unearthed. It is still in an unkept condition. It is about 1 1/2 miles east of Palmyra, Illinois or one quarter mile east of the Terry Cemetery. It is on a hill adjoining the lake of the Palmyra-Modesto Waterworks."

I'm wondering if this cemetery might also have been known as the Hamilton Cemetery. Recently I was contacted by someone seeking the burial place of John Newton Berry, son of Newton and Mary Berry who was, according to an obituary and his death certificate, buried in Hamilton Cemetery. I haven't been able to find any reference to a cemetery named Hamilton. His parents are buried in this small cemetery and it appears that he was one of the "undersigners" of the incorporation papers for this cemetery which makes me wonder if perhaps he is also buried here and whether this cemetery might also have been called Hamilton. I feel certain there are more burials here since the cemetery was known at various times as Young, Thompson and Strate Cemetery - I would expect to find at least a few burials with the Thompson and Strate surnames since those names were also used.
