VIRDEN - FIRST BAPTIST CEMETERY?
Names and dates abstracted from an article in the Illinois State Journal, Springfield, IL, 13 Oct. 1971.
These stones were uncovered in the yard of resident of Virden while searching for coins. Nine stones were found, but only six were listed. According to a history of Virden, Alexander Hord built the first home in Virden and he was clerk of the First Baptist Church there. Information was found that years ago a Baptist Church stood near the spot where the stones were found.

Of those listed below, none are recorded in the cemetery inscriptions of Virden Cemetery published in Tombstone Revelations, Book I, by the Macoupin County Historical Society. An Alexander Hord is listed, but the death date is different. This Alexander is listed as being born 1 Sept 1819 and died 15 Dec 1867.
