Horatio M. Ott was born in 1832/33 in Harrison County, Indiana, the son of Henry and Abigail (Lacewell) Ott. He moved to Menard County, Illinois in the early 1850's, the same time as his older brother Nimrod Ott moved there. I believe there is information on Nimrod Ott in the county history. Nimrod was the father of Jesse M. Ott who became mayor of Petersburg.

Horation married Nancy Atterberry on 16 Apr 1854 in Menard County. As far as I know they didn't have any children. His widow remarried a man named Dabney on 22 Mar 1866 in Menard County.
