Baker Cemetery
Menard County, Illinois
Directions: This cemetery is a little difficult to find as it can't be seen from the road - not even from the lane it is on. At the junction of Routes 97 and 123 in Petersburg, at the only stop light, turn east on to Route 123. Follow Rte. 123 out of town about 1 1/2 mile to Power & Power Automotive Garage, which is on the right side of the road. It is just before the Curtis Blacktop. At Power & Power Garage, turn right on to a gravel road, which looks like their parking lot. Go straight past their parking lot on the gravel private road until it curves to the left. DO NOT curve but go straight on to a grassy lane to the top of the hill. To the right you will see a small wooded area - the gravestones are in this wooded area. You still can't see the stones from the grassy lane as there is a slight hill. [Comment - this is some of the most beautiful and prime farmland that Menard County has to offer. It is absolutely breath taking when standing and looking out from the top of this hill.] The stones are through the woods and almost to the end of the woods about 15 or 20 yards. The picture with all the trees was taken from the grassy lane.
