Born: May 5, 1760 in Charles City, Virginia.
Died: December 22, 1835 in Sangamon (now Menard) County, Illinois.
Buried: At Farmers Point Cemetery, south of Petersburg, Illinois.
Married: (1) Jane Wilkins, December 31, 1785 at New Kent County, Virginia. She was born 1767. She died December 17, 1800 at Charles City County, Virginia. (2) Elizabeth Morris Bingley, widow of Lewis Bingley. They were married December 15, 1802 at James City County, Virginia. She was born 1771. She died January 2, 1850.
Zachariah's grave was marked by Pierre Menard Chapter DAR, Petersburg, Illinois.
He enlisted in the Continental Army at Williamsburg, when about 16 years of age and served as a private in the Virginia Troops. He was a member of the famous Virginia Company of young men who displayed remarkable bravery on the occasion of the storming of Stony Point, July 15, 1779. He served under Captain James Pendelton and Col. Charles Harrison. He was also in the Battle of Monmouth. He was discharged February 22, 1780. He was allowed pension on his application executed March 6, 1833, at which time he was living in Sangamon (now Menard) County, Illinois, aged 72 years and 10 months.
