Carter Cemetery

NE 1/4 SE 1/4, Section 8, Township 14N, Range 11W
Morgan County, Illinois

This tiny family cemetery is located in a timbered area nearly 1 1/2 miles southeast of Lynnville. No road or path leads to the burials, which are less than 1/2 mile north of the Morgan-Scott county line. The tombstones, none of which are standing, are scattered over an area of about 20 feet square. The area is densely covered with thorn trees and wild berry bushes. In addition to the tombstones listed below, there are several remnants with partial inscriptions. The compilers are grateful to Mr. Clifford Thaxton of Jacksonville who discivered the cemetery while hunting mushrooms and who served as guide to the site, and to landowners, Mr. and Mrs. Jack McNeely, who granted permission to visit the cemetery.
