DURBIN, GERALDINE (JOHNSON) ALBERS

Geraldine " Gerry" Albers-Durbin, 93, of Chapin, died Tuesday evening, April 4, 2006 at Passavant Transitional Care Unit.

She was born March 7, 1913 in the family home in Chapin, where she has resided since the early 1970' s, the daughter of William Asbury and Carrie Lee Sargent Johnson.

She was married to Harold Henry Albers for nearly forty-four years until his death on Nov. 7, 1977. She later married Clifford Lee " Doc" Durbin on April 11, 1986 and he also preceded her in death on May 23, 2002.

She is survived by two daughters, Karrie Lou Hutton of rural Bluffs and Judith Diane (husband, Eugene) Thomas of rural Perry; three grandchildren, Jay Eric Hutton and Kevin Andrew (wife, Tracey) Hutton, both of Bluffs, and Vonna Jean Park of rural Perry; one great-granddaughter; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and good friend and helper Chuck Miller of Chapin.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Blanche McNeil Thorneycroft; one brother, Melvin Jason Johnson; and one son-in-law, Kenneth Hutton.

Mrs. Albers-Durbin attended Chapin schools, and early in her life she was a carrier for the Springfield State Register and was also employed at Henry Medlock' s Bakery in Chapin at the sales counter. After marriage, she helped her husband Harold with farm work, mainly hauling grain and tractor work in the spring and fall, during the planting and harvesting seasons. In March of 1956, she started keeping children in their home, which she did for the next ten years. She always enjoyed being with children, as well as cooking, baking, piano playing and crocheting, mainly making large afghans for friends and relatives. She had also donated one afghan each year since 1974 to Chapin Big Country Days. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandma and great-grandma. Family always came first.

WHITE, CHARLES ERVIN

Charles Ervin White, 76, of Jacksonville, a longtime Chapin resident, died Thursday, July 27, 2006, at Passavant Area Hospital.

He was born July 7, 1930 in Sorento, Ill., the son of Louis and Mary Miller White.

He married Velma Pauline Vaniter and she preceded him in death in 1976. He then married Virginia Floyd on May 12, 1979 in Jacksonville and she survives.

He is also survived by four daughters, Patty (husband, Bill) Caldwell of Longmont, Colo., Gloria (husband, Rod) Nobis of Shawnee, Kan., Mary (husband, Paul) Baker of Chapin and Cora "Corky" (husband, Terry) Surratt of Jacksonville; nine grandchildren, Kerrie Caldwell Troutman, Jamie Brant Nobis, Nicole Nobis Otto, Angela Surratt Bolton, Charles Knox, Christopher Knox, Jana Baker, Julia Baker and Patricia Baker; seven great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Dale (wife, Helen) White of Jacksonville and Bobby (wife, Sadie) White of Marine, Ill.

He was preceded in death by one son, Charles Robert White, in infancy; and two brothers, Dean White and Donald White.

Mr. White was a retired farmer, and had worked many years for the late Charles Williams in the Chapin area. He loved to garden and plant flowers.

RUYLE, MARK

Mark Ruyle, 42, of Jacksonville, died Wednesday, June 21, 2006 at his residence, following an extended illness.

He was born Jan. 7, 1964, in Jacksonville, the son of Paul A. and Phyllis Harris Evans.

He is survived by his parents, of Chapin; three daughters, Krista Riner of Springfield; Cassandra Ruyle and Alexis Ruyle, both of Jacksonville; four grandchildren; two brothers, Michael and Mark's twin, Matthew, both of Jacksonville; and two sisters, Christina Ruyle of Florissant, Mo. and Lesa (husband, Michael) Werries of Jacksonville.

Mr. Ruyle worked many years for Mobil Chemical. He was a member of Chapin Christian Church. He enjoyed renovating older homes and he loved his family, especially his children.

Memorial services will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Chapin Christian Church. The family will meet friends at the church following the service. Rachel Sue Thorpe, 81, of Springfield, died Saturday, July 15, 2006, at St. John's Hospice in Springfield.

She was born October 2, 1924, in Virginia, the daughter of Astor and Lorena Long Watts.

She married Clarence Friend Thorpe and he preceded her in death in 1979.

She is survived by one daughter, Peggy (husband, William) Steinke of Naperville; six grandchildren, David (wife, Helen) Thorpe of Springfield, Dena (husband, Alex) Marques of Dana Point, California, Angela (husband, Gregg) Ford of Springfield, Missouri, and Stacey (husband, John) Peavey, Kimberly (husband, Brian) Porak, and Michelle (husband, Jeremy) Stoltz, all of Naperville; one brother, Albert Watts of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; two sisters, Flo Lopeman of Canton and Carolyn Lambert of Springfield; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by one son, David Harold Thorpe; and two brothers, Charles Watts and William Watts.

Mrs. Thorpe was an accountant for C.A. Dawson Lumber Company. She served as a medical stenographer in the Women's Army Corps during World War II. She enjoyed pinochle, Yahtzee, bingo, and crossword puzzles, and was an avid reader.

A funeral service will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 19, 2006, at Williamson Funeral Home in Jacksonville. The family will meet friends from 6 p.m. until the time of service Wednesday at the funeral home. A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday at Chapin Cemetery. RIGOR, DONALD E.

Donald E. Rigor, 62, of Chapin, died Tuesday, August 8, 2006, in Cascade Township, Michigan.

He was born February 4, 1944, in Jacksonville, the son of Truman Ellsworth "Bub" and Mardelle Louise Massey Rigor.

He married Mary "Sue" Smith on November 24, 1965, in Seattle, Washington, and she survives.

He is also survived by one daughter, Teresia (husband, Mark) Terlecki of Springfield; and one son, Shawn Rigor of Chapin.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Gayle Weger, and one brother, Kenneth E. Rigor. Mr. Rigor was a truck driver for Gulley Transport of Quincy.

He served as a combat engineer in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He was former commander and 38-year member of Chapin American Legion Post 878, and has served his fallen comrades as a member of numerous military funeral details. He was founder of Operation Christmas Spirit, an organization that has reached out to thousands of overseas service men and women during the holiday season. Mr. Rigor was a 25-year member of the Chapin Volunteer Fire Department and had served as assistant chief. He was a co-founder of Chapin Cub Scouts, and had coached Little League and Pony League baseball. He was a member of Triopia Jaycees, and had served as chapter president, district and regional director, and was a life member of the Illinois Jaycees Senate. He was a member and past-chairman of Chapin Big Country Days. Mr. Rigor was founder of the All-Town Cleanup and co-founder of the All-Town Yard Sale, both in Chapin. Mr. Rigor was a 49-year member of Chapin Christian Church, and had served as an elder, deacon, and chairman of the board.

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, August 12, 2006 at Williamson Funeral Home in Jacksonville, with burial at Chapin Cemetery. Barbara J. Crews, 85, of Chapin, died Thursday morning, August 10, 2006, at her residence. She was born January 22, 1921, in Merritt, the daughter of Truman Anthony and Hallie Cecil McDaniel Rigor.

She married William H. "Bill" Crews on June 19, 1937, in Jacksonville, and he preceded her in death on April 3, 2005.

She is survived by two sons, Robert (wife, Kathy) Crews of Hubert Heights, Ohio, and Kenneth (wife, Patty) Crews of Chapin; ten grandchildren, Robin Kruthaupt, Kyle Crews, Jodie Ryndak, Rick Crews, Hallie Crews, Curtis Crews, Becky McCartney, Angela Tobler, Dustin Crews, and Adam Crews; nineteen great-grandchildren; and one half-sister, Delores Hamilton of Pontiac.

She was preceded in death by one son, Tony Crews, (surviving wife, Joyce of Chapin), one daughter and son-in-law, Patsy and Nelson Smith; one daughter-in-law, Barbara Ann Crews; three infant sons, one grandson, Rusty Smith; one sister, Ilafayne Hence; and four brothers, Truman Ellsworth "Bub" Rigor, Clifford Rigor, James Rigor, and Richard Anthony "Tag" Rigor.

Mrs. Crews was a seamstress at J. Capps and Sons, and retired in 1974. She was a longtime member of Chapin Christian Church and the Sunbeam Class, and a member of the Chapin American Legion Auxiliary and the Home Extension. She enjoyed quilting, drinking coffee with her friends, and fishing trips with her husband to Tennessee and Minnesota. Mrs. Crews was an avid Chicago Cubs fan. She especially cherished time spent with her family.

TICKNOR, GEORGE E.

Obituary: 20 June 1986

George Ticknor, 71, dies late Wednesday

George E. Ticknor, 71, 807 E. Independence, died 11:50 p.m. Wednesday, June 18, at Passavant Hospital.

He was born July 17, 1914, in Paris, Mo., son of LeRoy and Sarah Ragean Ticknor. He married Margaret Ida Gimbel April 29, 1942, and she preceded him in death March 5, 1978. He later married Etta M. Bussey March 17, 1979, and she survives.

Also surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Ray (Margaret Jane) Burnett and Mrs. James F (Judy Kaye) Bates, both of Jacksonville: Three stepchildren, James Bussey, John Bussey and Bonnie Murrison, all of Cincinnatti, Ohio: nine grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and two great-stepgrandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son and two daughters.

Services will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Williamson Funeral Home. Interment will be in the Chapin Cemetery. Friends may call after 1 p.m. Friday at the funeral home where the family will meet friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

Services for George E. Ticknor were held Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at the Williamson Funeral Home with the Revs. Jimmy Walker and A.D. Selby officiating. Jim Monroe was the organist and sang "In the Garden" and "Won't Have to Worry Anymore." The pallbearers were Charles Israel, Carl Gimbel, Tony Burnett, Edward "Hap" Carrigan, Jim Daniels and Tom Wynn. Burial was in Chapin Cemetery.

Also, the name of one of Mr. Ticknor's wives was omitted from his obituary. He was married to Eleanor Frances Gimbel on Dec. 24, 1932. She died in 1940. Two sons from this marriage, Harold E. and Robert L. Ticknor, preceded him in death.


VANHYNING, CLYDE W.

Clyde W. VanHyning, Sr., 72, of Lynville, died Wednesday, March 8, 2006 at his residence.

He was born June 17, 1933 in Naples, the son of Lewis and Verna Masters VanHyning. He married Nylene Vieira on Aug. 3, 1957 in Jacksonville and she survives.

He is also survived by two daughters, Susan (husband, Kenneth) Oswald of Mt. Sterling and Barbara (husband, Robert, Jr.) Chapman of Bluffs; two sons, Clyde (wife, Lesa) VanHyning, Jr. of Jacksonville and Danny VanHyning of Mt. Sterling; nine grandchildren, Sarah Oswald of Springfield, Kelsey Oswald of Mt. Sterling, Lauren VanHyning, Ian VanHyning and Linsey VanHyning, all of Jacksonville, Adam Chapman and Alex Chapman, both of Bluffs, and Clint VanHyning and Garet VanHyning, both of Jacksonville.; three brothers, Charles VanHyning of Glenview, Richard VanHyning of Moline and Roy VanHyning of Harrison, Ark.; and one sister, Pat Beavers of Jacksonville. He was preceded in death by one son, Anthony Wayne VanHyning in infancy; three brothers, Edward VanHyning, William VanHyning and one brother in infancy; five sisters, Betty Cernava, Rosemary Rabenau, Elinor Vieira, Marge Wright and Josephine Orris.

Mr. VanHyning worked for many years at the Oscar Mayer Plant in Beardstown, before retiring from Salem Lutheran School in 1995. Early in life he worked at Bluffs Elevator and also Freesen's Service Station in Bluffs. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying fishing, hunting, mushrooming and gardening. He loved his family, especially spending time with his grandchildren.

Dorothy Brown, 78, of Jacksonville died Friday evening, February 17, 2006 at Passavant Area Hospital in Jacksonville. She was born April 4, 1927 in Santa Monica, California the daughter of Robert and Nellie Tarbet Hatter. She married James E. Johnson. She later married John E. Brown on September 5, 1954 in Yuma, Arizona and he preceded her in death in 1991.

She is survived by 5 sons, James (wife, Sharon) Johnson of Chapin and Steve (wife, Hester) Johnson, John F. (wife, Rebecca) Brown, Jack E. (fiancé, Diane Williams) Brown and Bob A. (companion, Linda Moore) Brown all of Jacksonville; one daughter, Ellen (husband, James) Choate of Kennedy, Texas; 13 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; 10 step grandchildren and 9 step great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by 3 brothers, Robert, Sonny and Bush Hatter.

Mrs. Brown had been employed at Barton W. Stone Christian Home in Jacksonville and later at the Jacksonville Developmental Center from where she retired. She was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in Jacksonville. She enjoyed needlework, reading, her pets and having coffee with her sons and their families. She loved her family more than anything and was known for her good sense of humor. She was cherished by her family and will be missed forever.

Carol Ann Barfield, 57, of Bluffs, died Thursday evening, July 1, 1999, at Passavant Area Hospital in Jacksonville.

She was born Dec. 28, 1941, in Concord, the daughter of Russell H. and Bernice Baker Ogle. She first married John Dilks on July 13, 1959, and he preceded her in death on Nov. 22, 1980. She then married John R. Barfield on June 20, 1981, in Jerseyville, and he survives.

She is also survived by five daughters, Gabrielle Tillery of Jerseyville, Melody (husband, Wesley) Hunter of Fort Campbell, Ky., Mischelle (husband, Matthew) Rhodes of New Berlin, Kisha (husband, John) Stiles of Jerseyville, Ambra of Bluffs; five sons, Rick (wife, Hodie) Dilks of White Hall, Chris Dilks of Jerseyville, Rocky of Springfield, Kevin (wife, Connie) of Beardstown, Todd of Bluffs; 13 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Becky (husband, Joe) McDonnald of Jacksonville and Joyce (husband, Robert) Carr of Springfield. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Tina Dilks; one son, Johnny Barfield; one sister, Ruth Chambers, and four brothers, James H. Ogle (surviving wife, Sheila of Texas), Vernon Ogle (surviving wife, Anita of Jacksonville), Robert Glen Ogle and Keith Ogle (surving wife, Judy) of Chapin.

Mrs. Barfield was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Her favorite things were eating out and spending time with her family and friends. She was also an avid fan of sprint car racing and WCW and WWF wrestling.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Chapin Cemetery. The family will meet friends from 6 - 8 p.m. Monday at the Williamson Funeral Home.

Memorials are suggested to the care of her two youngest children, Todd and Ambra Barfield.


HAZELWOOD, TERESA L. MCGRATH

Teresa L. "Tiny" McGrath Hazelwood, 79 years, of Jacksonville, IL died Wednesday afternoon, October 19, 2005 at the Barton W. Stone Home in Jacksonville.

She was born May 14, 1926 in Murrayville, IL; the daughter of William B. And Ida Begnel McGrath. She married Martelle Hazelwood on December 15, 1944 in Moline, IL and he preceded in death on August 28, 1982.

She is survived by a daughter, Judy Watt (husband, Dave) of South Jacksonville; two grandsons, Rob Watt (wife, Sonya) of South Jacksonville and Brian Watt of South Jacksonville; two brothers, Gerald McGrath (wife, Pat) of Scottsdale, AZ and James McGrath of Springfield; three sisters, Bernice Whewell, Agnes McDevitt, and Rosemary Vaniter (husband, Charlie) all of Jacksonville; 37 nieces and nephews; and special friends and care givers, Jeanie Chambers of Woodson and Millie Bryant of South Jacksonville.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Bernard McGrath; and a sister, Cecelia Proffitt.

Mrs. Hazelwood was employed over 20 years at Bound To Stay Bound Book Bindery in Jacksonville prior to her retirement. She was a member of the Church of Our Saviour, a 26 year member of American Legion Post 279 Auxiliary, and a 47 year member of VFW Post 1379 Auxiliary where she served as President in 1968-1969. She enjoyed card playing and Bingo games.

A funeral Mass will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, October 22, 2005 at the Church of Our Saviour in Jacksonville with burial at Chapin Cemetery. Viola Marie Williams, 80, of Jacksonville, died Monday, July 18, 2005, at Passavant Transitional Care Unit in Jacksonville. She was born March 31, 1925 in Chapin, the daughter of Elmer and Julia Coil Hamm. She married Russell Surratt on October 4, 1945, and they were later divorced. She married Thomas Williams on February 14, 1973 in Concord, and he survives.

She is also survived by three sons, Ronald (wife, Barb) Surratt of Arenzville, Terry "Pete" (wife, Corky) Surratt of Jacksonville, and Gary (wife, Tammy) Surratt of Chapin; four daughters, Berneta (husband, Jim) Berry of Concord; Bernice (husband, Bob) McCurley of Jacksonville, Rhonda (husband, Leo) Willard of Springfield, and Gerry (husband, Nimmie) McDannald of Jacksonville; one step-son, Tom (wife, Donna) Williams of Decatur; four step-daughters, Pam (husband, Herm) Kund of Riverside, California, Nancy (husband, Carroll) Kelly and Janet (husband, John) Watson, both of Sesser, and Ruth Ann West of Springfield; twelve grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren; one brother, Elmer (wife, Doris) Hamm of Copperas Cove, Texas; and her caregiver, Alice Proffer of Arenzville. Mrs. Williams was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Jody McCurley; one brother, Percy Hamm (surviving wife Roberta of Fall Creek,) and one sister, Thelma Standley (surviving husband, Loren of Monroe, North Carolina.)

Mrs. Williams was a waitress in the Jacksonville area for nearly forty years, working at numerous establishments including Wagners, Kresges, and the Elm City Café in Jacksonville, and the Village Inn at Arenzville. She was a member of Concord Christian Church in Concord and loved flowers, crocheting baby quilts, and caring for her pets, especially her poodle "Pepper."

Helen N. Reilly, 100, of Jacksonville and formerly of Chapin and Rochester died Wednesday morning, March 9, 2005 at Modern Care Convalescent Facilty in Jacksonville. She was born March 26, 1904 in Chapin the daughter of Frank and Stella Standage Smith. She married William Reilly on February 19, 1955 in California and he preceded her in death on November 30, 1970.

She is survived by her close friends and caregivers, Jerald (wife, Phyllis) Mayner of Jacksonville.

Mrs. Reilly had been employed at the General Motors Corporation in the Accounting Office. She was a member of the Chapin Christian Church. She started the Bread of Love Program was Past President of the Resident Council at the Laborer's Home in Jacksonville.

Charles A. "Tony" Crews, 65, of Chapin, died Monday, December 19, 2005, at his residence. He was born December 11, 1940, in Jacksonville, the son of William H. "Bill" and Barbara Rigor Crews. He married Joyce Coffman in 1960 at the Chapin Christian Church, and she survives.

He is also survived by one daughter, Jodie (husband, Anthony) Ryndak of Cottleville, Missouri; one son, Richard (wife, Laurie) Crews of Jacksonville, three grandsons, Jake, Wyatt, and Eli; his mother, Barbara Crews of Chapin; two brothers, Robert (wife, Kathy) Crews of Hubert Heights, Ohio and Kenneth (wife, Patty) Crews of Chapin; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father, one sister, Patsy Smith; and three infant brothers.

Mr. Crews graduated from Chapin High School and immediately enlisted in the United States Navy. Following his discharge from the Navy, he worked at Capital Records in Jacksonville for nearly 20 years. He then became District 4 Road Commissioner in Morgan County, a position he held for over 20 years. Forever community minded, Mr. Crews was a founder of Chapin Big Country Days, served on the committee that established the Enhanced 911 service for Morgan County, and was currently serving on the North Morgan Water District board. He was a member and former chief of the Chapin Volunteer Fire Department, and was a longtime member of Chapin Christian Church, where he was an elder and served as a youth group leader. He was a Cub Scout master, Little League Coach, member of the Jacksonville Elks Club, and an avid Chicago Cubs fan. Mr. Crews was a member of Chapin American Legion Post 878, and had served on many military funeral details through the years.

Walter Joseph Wood, 96, of Winchester, formerly of Jacksonville and Chapin, died Sunday night, Jan. 1, 1995, at the Scott County Nursing Center.

He was born Aug. 21, 1898, south of Franklin in rural Morgan County, the son of John William and Mary Ellen Hilton Wood. He married Lemma Walcott on Feb. 19, 1919; she preceded him in death in November 1926. He married Lela Ruth Martin on March 25, 1929, in Jacksonville; she preceded him in death in November 1978.

He is survived by five children, John Walter (wife, Betty) Wood of Ozark, Mo., Louise Wood Douglass of Jacksonville, Mrs. LaVern (Margaret) Hart and Joseph Martin (wife, Ercelia) Wood, both of Winchester, and Mrs. Sidney (Letha Mae) Carmean of Lompoc, Calif.; two brothers, Herschel Wood of Winchester and Lester Wood of Escondido, Calif.; 14 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Helen Fanning Butler and Leona Anders.

Mr. Wood attended Mound School and owned and operated Wood's Garage in Jacksonville and then in Chapin for more than 50 years. He also had run a grocery and feed store in Oxville, and he worked as a mechanic, machinist, farmer, fisherman and taxi driver here and for a time in Indiana.

He was a member of the Bloomfield Baptist Church and the Sandy Creek Association. He had been very active in church, having been treasurer, deacon and Sunday school teacher.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Coonrod Funeral Home in Winchester with burial in Chapin Cemetery. Friends may call after 3 p.m. Wednesday, with the family to meet friends from 6-8 p.m.

Surratt on June 3, 1947 in Virginia, and he preceded her in death on February 20, 2003.

She is survived by three daughters, Hattie (husband, Everett) Burbridge and Hettie (husband, Stacey) McDannald, both of Concord; Hilda (husband, Edward) Six of South Jacksonville; one son, George D. Surratt of Carlinville; five grandchildren, Joshua Lee McDannald, Katie Louise McDannald, Jason Alan Surratt, Megann Kae Burbridge, and Christopher Edward Six.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Ellen Mae Miller; and one brother, George Sims, (surviving wife Nina of Jacksonville.) Mrs. Surratt was a homemaker. She loved Cardinal birds, flowers, cats, and her family; especially her grandchildren.

Betty Cathleen (Vaniter) Magos, 81, of Jacksonville, died Saturday, August 14, 2004, at Prairie Village Healthcare in Jacksonville. She was born April 14, 1923 near Jacksonville, the daughter of Alva and Cora Surratt Vaniter. She married Wilford Elmer Goodrich and he preceded her in death.

She is survived by three daughters, Wanda Shanks and Helen (husband, George Dale) White, both of Jacksonville, and Alma Carline Santillan of Chicago; 12 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Carol (husband, Jack) Stevens of Oklahoma.

She was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Linda Sue Richards, one great-grandson, Christian Cain Ridder, 5 brothers, and 3 sisters. Mrs. Magos worked at Victor Dana Gasket Company in Chicago for over 30 years. She had also worked at Nesco. She was a steward for United Auto Workers Union and a member of Chapin Christian Church. Mrs. Magos enjoyed arts and crafts, and was a great cook.

He later married Violet Owings Daniels on November 8, 1983 and she survives.

Mr. Moore was a 1937 graduate of Jacksonville High School. He had been employed as a machinist at Bound To Stay Bound Book Bindery for 47 years. He is survived by his parents of Chapin; three sisters, Sheri Marie (husband, Larry) Harris of California, Lisa Janette (husband, Benjamin) Hughes of Washington, and Kristi Nichole Luttrell of Chapin; three brothers, Robert Lee (wife, Theresa) Luttrell, David Curtis Luttrell, and Marc Alan Luttrell, all of Chapin; paternal grandfather Lester Luttrell of Jacksonville, maternal grandparents Orville and Retha Wheatley of Jacksonville; special friend, Jodie DeGroot of Bluffs; and several nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandmother, Janette Winner.

Jason was a 1996 graduate of Triopia High School, attended MacMurray College, and was currently employed at Buchheit in Jacksonville. He had earlier worked for the Jacksonville Journal Courier for nine years, delivering newspapers to the entire Chapin community. He also worked at the Chapin Farmers Elevator during harvest. Jason was an avid fan of baseball, especially the St. Louis Cardinals, and loved coaching youth teams in Chapin and Jacksonville. He had played baseball for MacMurray College and for the Jacksonville Jazz Legion and Junior Legion teams. Jason enjoyed hunting and fishing.

She was born January 30, 1921 in Chapin, the daughter of William T. and Sarah Viola McDaniel Ishmael. She married Lloyd "Red" Hymes on August 24, 1945 in Jacksonville and he survives.

She is also survived by four sons, Larry (wife, Donna) Hymes of Neoga, Mike Hymes, Tom Hymes, and John Hymes, all of Jacksonville; one daughter, Pat Hymes of Pawnee; seven grandchildren, Cindy Thompson, Clint Hymes, Rick Hymes, Darryl Hymes, Darlene Beck, Michelle Hymes, and Kerry Hymes; and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Jessie Rigg. Mrs. Hymes worked as a bookkeeper for her husband's Gulf Station on the corner of Morton and Westgate.

She was also employed at Chapin High School, Montgomery Ward, and Spiegel's at various times. She was a member of Central Christian Church in Jacksonville and enjoyed genealogy and bingo. She was an avid Chicago Cubs fan.

She was preceded in death by one son, Roy Taylor Alderson, two brothers, Melvin Homer and Clifford Homer; and two sisters, Alberta White and Louise "Johnny" Medlock.

Mrs. Stewart was a homemaker and a member of Prairieland Heritage Museum. She attended Franklin Baptist Church. Mrs. Stewart enjoyed crocheting and fishing, but her greatest joy was her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Surratt of Carlinville; five grandchildren; four sisters, Vaneta (husband, Robert) Bacon and Wanda Coleman, both of Jacksonville, Dorothy Walls of California, and Phyllis (husband, George) Mitchell of Sylvis; four brothers, Leonard (wife, Virginia) Surratt of Jacksonville, Lionel Surratt of North Carolina, Ronnie (wife, Winnie) Surratt of Jacksonville, and Otis "Bud" Surratt of East Moline; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one infant daughter, Hellen Louise Surratt; one sister, Pauline Senteras; and two brothers, Bernard Surratt and Danny Surratt.

Mr. Surratt was a mechanic for Byers Brothers, International Harvester in Jacksonville for over 30 years. Following retirement, he bought and sold iron. He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II as an automotive equipment operator and was a member of the Arenzville American Legion. Mr. Surratt enjoyed talking with friends on his C.B. radio, and loved his grandchildren.

She was born October 6, 1911, in Orleans, the daughter of Thomas Elmer and Elva Marie McQuown Griffin. She married Joseph Baker April 14, 1934 in Chapin, and he preceded her in death June 9, 1982. She married John Griffin December 19, 1992 in Chapin and he preceded her in death in October of 1993.

She is survived by two daughters, Shirley Wolke of Concord and Beverly (husband, Martin) Werries of Chapin; eight grandchildren, seventeen great-granchildren; and four great-great- grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one brother, George Russell Griffin.

Mrs. Griffin was a clerk at the J.C. Penney store on the Jacksonville square. She was a member of Chapin Christian Church, Sunbeam Class, and Pastor Helpers, and served as church organist for 25 years. She was a member of the Organ Society of Jacksonville and the Rebekah Lodge. She was an avid fisherman and enjoyed gardening, and cooking.

Myers, Florida; and four sisters, Eunice Angelo and Sharon Walden, both of Jacksonville, Mary Ferris of Meredosia, and Wanda (husband, Donald) Farris of Roodhouse. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Donald Surratt (surviving wife Linda) of St. Louis, Missouri; and one infant sister, Noda.

Mr. Surratt was a truck driver for many years in the Jacksonville area. He later worked as a painter of Tim Powell Painting. He was an avid Chicago Cubs and NASCAR fan. A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, November 2, 2005, at Chapin Cemetery in Chapin. There will be no visitation. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society.
