Irene C. Duffer 1916 - 2000

Irene C. Duffer, 84, of South Jacksonville, died Thursday morning, March 30, 2000, at Jacksonville Convalescent Center.

She was born Feb. 24, 1916, in Franklin, the daughter of John and Ella Hart Crawford. She married Leroy Duffer Oct. 2, 1959 in Jacksonville, and he preceded her in death on Sept. 30, 1993.

She is survived by one daughter, Doris (husband, Charles) Jones of Jacksonville; four grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one brother, Raleigh Crawford; and four sisters, Avis Chaudoin, Estelle Seymour, Madge Hayes and Carmen Becker.

Mrs. Duffer was employed as the office manager for the Morgan County Service Co. and later worked for the South Jacksonville Water Department. She was a member of the Morgan County Garden Club, Alpha Iota Sorority, Jacksonville Business and Professional Women's Club, Home Extension and Sulphur Springs Cemetery Board. Mrs. Duffer was a member of the First Baptist Church where she was very active in the First Baptist Women's Service League and served as financial secretary.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday at the First Baptist Church, with burial at Sulphur Springs Cemetery. There will be no formal visitation, but friends may call at the Williamson Funeral Home from2 - 6 p.m. Saturday, or one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials are suggested to the First Baptist Church or Sulphur Springs Cemetery.
