Earl Smith, 77, of 1335 S. Diamond St. and formerly of Pisgah, died early Sunday, Dec. 19, at Passavant Hospital.
He was born May 31, 1911 in Monticello, Ky., a son of James Smith and Fronia Upton Smith Toler. He married Mary Witham on April 11, 1931 in Jacksonville.
He is survived by his wife; one son, John of Jacksonville; four daughters, Mrs. Richard (Dodie) Gillie and Mrs. James (Mary Louise) Doolin, both of Jacksonville, Mrs. Dennis (Barbara Jean) Burress of Decatur and Beverly Madding of Atlanta, Ga.; 13 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; two half brothers, Ernest Toler of Alexander and Homer Toler of Decatur; and two half sisters, Dorothy Thornton of Georgetown and Helen McManus of Jacksonville. He was preceded in death by two half brothers.
Mr. Smith was a retired farmer and a member of Union Baptist Church at Pisgah.
Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Williamson Funeral Home, with burial at Union Cemetery at Pisgah. Friends may call after 11 a.m. Monday, with the family to meet with friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Memorials may be made to Pisgah Union Cemetery.
