Hazel J. Wood

Hazel L. Wood, 102, of Springfield and formerly of Pisgah, died early Monday afternoon, Oct. 26, 1998 at the home of her daughter, Helen Jean Burnett in Waverly. She was born May 2, 1896 at Mowequa the daughter of Joseph Edward and Helen Jordan Longenbaugh. She married Leonard I. Wood on Nov. 4, 1920 at Mowequa and he preceded her in death on June 9, 1967.

Surviving are two sons, Byron (wife, Jeanne) Wood of Evansville, In. And Robert (wife, Janet) Wood of Pisgah; one daughter, Helen Jean (husband, Frank "Blockie") Burnett of Waverly; 12 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Betty Sawalish of Port Angeles, Washington. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Carl Longenbaugh, and one brother in infancy, and one sister, Corinne Duffy.

Mrs. Wood has been a homemaker and assisted her husband farming in the Pisgah area. She was a member of the Union Baptist Church at Pisgah. She was past-president of the Franklin School District P.T.A., a charter member of the Pisgah Potluck Club, and a charter member of the Orleans Woman's Club, which is the oldest confederate club in Illinois.

Funeral services will be held Friday, Oct. 30, 1998 at 11 a.m. at the Williamson Funeral Home with burial at Union Baptist Cemetery at Pisgah. Memorials are suggested to the Union Baptist Cemetery Fund or to the Visiting Nurses Association of Morgan and Scott Counties.
