Richard L. Neal

Richard Lee Neal, 77, of Waverly, died Monday, Nov. 4, 2002, at Passavant Area Hospital in Jacksonville.
He was born Feb. 24, 1925, in Monticello, Ky., a son of Clarence and Bessie Bertram Neal. He married Marie Childers on July 7, 1954, in Jacksonville, and she preceded him in death on April 27, 2001.
He is survived by one daughter, Betty (husband, Darrell) Hauenstein of Waverly; three sisters, Jean Stewart of Franklin, Lillian Witherbee of Franklin, and Norene Van Deveer of Peoria; one granddaughter, Mary McCoy-Smith of Elwood, IN; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; two brothers, Oral Thomas Neal and Elmer Junior Neal; one sister, Rose Morris, who died Oct. 25 of this year; and two grandsons, Richard Baldwin and Timothy Bartz.
Mr. Neal retired from R. D. Lawrence Company and was a member of the union there. He was a veteran of WWII, serving as a lineman in the field artillery battery, in the Army, in the Asiatic Theatre in Japan from April 1945 to August 1946. He was a former member of the American Legion Post #1089 in Franklin.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., friday, Nov. 8, 2002, at Youngblood Baptist Church in Nortonville. Burial will be at Nortonville Cemetery.
