Catherine E. Rice dies Wednesday

Catherine E. Rice of 5B Justin Drive died Wednesday, July 31, at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.

She was born in Hartsburg, a daughter of Sweeter and Minnie Behrends Wiggers.

She was married to John L. Wright, who died Oct. 4, 1967. She was married to Jack C. Rice Jan. 29, 1970. He survives.

Also surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Robert (Jane) Wright Parker of Tulsa, Okla., Cathy Rice of Colorado Springs, Colo., Mrs. Clark (Susan) Wagner and Mrs. Roger (Mary Jo) Russell, both of Jacksonville; a son, Tim Rice, of Jacksonville; four grandchildren; four sisters, Mrs. Bertha Bauer and Mrs. Margaret Rohrer, both of Lincoln, Mrs. Florence Werth of Mt. Pulaski and Mrs. Ruth Ellen Wurth of Hartsburg; two brothers, Andrew Wiggers of Mt. Pulaski and Melvin Wiggers of Lincoln.

She was preceded in death by a brother John.

She was a teacher for 30 years before retiring from School District 117. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, the Monday Conversation Club and the Delta Nu chapter of Delta theta Tau Sorority.

Friends may call at the Gillham-Buchanan Funeral Home after 2 p.m. Thursday; the family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Thursday. Services will be held Friday at 1:30 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church with burial in Murrayville Cemetery. Memorial gifts may be made to First Presbyterian Church.
