James Leonard Shelton (1972)

James Leonard (Nubbins) Shelton, 73 year old retired printer and employee of the Jacksonville Courier 23 years, died at Norris Hospital at 7:12 a.m. Sunday. He had been hospitalized since September 12th. Mr. Shelton retired in 1965 when working for the St. Louis Post Dispatch. He had been living with a daughter, Mrs. Dale Gibbs.

He was born at Chandlerville October 29, 1898, son of David and Patience Fanning Shelton. He was married to Veda Steele who died in 1966.

The following children survive, Wayne, Ellsworth and Robert, all of Chicago, Leonard Jr., and William of Versailles; Dorothy Bottom, Carrollton; Jacqueline Panhorst, Wentzville, MO; Veda Moore, Marrisa, IL; and Barbara Gibbs, Jacksonville, route three.

There are 37 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. A sister LaVern King, of Chandlerville, IL survives. A brother preceded Mr. Shelton in death. The deceased was a member of the International Typographical Union.

The remains are at the Williamson Funeral Home. Arrangements will be announced.
