Myrtle B. Shoemaker

Myrtle B. Shoemaker, 86, of South Jacksonville, died Monday morning, Jan. 1, 2001, at Passavant Area Hospital in Jacksonville.

She was born Oct. 16, 1914, in Eolia, Mo., the daughter of John and Susie L. Magee. She married Charles Emery Shoemaker April 26, 1935, in Hamburg, Ill., and he preceded her in death on Nov. 6, 1979.

She is survived by two sons, Charles W. of Jacksonville and Earl W. (wife, Phyllis) of Waverly; 14 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two sons, Douglas Dwight and John D. (surviving wife, Carolyn A. of Sulphur Rock, Ark.); one brother, Walter Barnes; and two sisters, Wanda Luckett and Jesse Knapp.

Mrs. Shoemaker owned and operated restaurants in Pearl, Winchester and Bluffs, prior to her retirement. She was of the Southern Baptist faith.

Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Thursday at Gillham-Buchanan Funeral Home, with burial at Youngblood Cemetery in Nortonville. Friends may call from 9 a.m. until time of services at the funeral home. Memorial gifts are suggested to the Youngblood Cemetery Association.
