David T. "Sonny" Vedder, 65, of Virden and formerly of Jacksonville, died Saturday evening, March 18, 1995 at St. John's Hospital in Springfield.

He was born Feb. 1, 1930 in Arcadia, the son of Jesse H. and Clara E. Lacey Vedder. He married Margaret L. Gabbert Snyder Sept. 27, 1972 in Virden. She survives.

He is also survived by one son, Thomas D. Vedder of Girard; two stepsons, Larry Love of Peoria and Bill Snyder of Wagoner; one daughter, Mrs. Brad (Stacy) Campbell of Jacksonville; three stepdaughters, Judy Whitworth of Mt. Dora, Fla., Kay Gauble of Medford, N.J., and Karen Snell of Modesto; 16 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one brother, Ronald Vedder of Fairbury; two sisters, Mrs. Sherman (Marge) Orr of Niantic and Mrs. Robert (Betty) Pennell of Jacksonville; one aunt, Augusta Claus of Jacksonville; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by one brother, Lee Vedder.

Mr. Vedder worked for more than 21 years in the Jacksonville and Springfield area as a salesman and sales manager for the area car dealers. He formerly farmed in the Girard, Virden and Nilwood area and owned and operated Vedder Elevator in Nilwood. He owned and operated Vedder Trucking in Virden. He was a member of Grace Southern Baptist church in Virden, served on the church board for 3 years, and was active in the church choir. He was also a member of Virden American Legion Post, 386 and a former member of Jacksonville American Legion and the Jacksonville Ambucks.

Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday at Grace Southern Baptist Church in Virden with burial at Youngblood Cemetery in Nortonville. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. today at the Berry Funeral Home in Virden. Memorials are suggested to Grace Southern Baptist Church or the Vedder family.
