Anderson Coffin Book
Volume III, Part 2, 1865-1869
This list of records begins with August 1865 and continue through November 1869.
There are seven volumes of these records - some include more information than others. It is obvious that the Name
Recorded sometimes indicates the person who placed the order and paid for the coffin and services rather than the name of the deceased, since some names can be found more than one time. Other names are most probably the name of the deceased - particularly where “Est or Estate” is indicated. It is impossible to clearly indicate without much further and very time consuming research whether the name represents the purchaser or the decedent - and that assumes that a legibly marked grave can be located for each individual - highly unlikely.
None of these individuals would have been buried in Diamond Grove Cemetery because it, and Calvary Cemetery had not yet been started. College Hill (where Turner School currently stands), Massey Lane, Jacksonville East and Immanuel North were the only Jacksonville Cemeteries known to exist at that period of time.
