ENGINE SWITCHED CARS AT THE OLD SPRINGFIELD IRON WORKS
Thomas Kavanaugh switched cars at the old rolling mill - Springfield Iron Works - with a team of horses, until the
company, keeping in step with the times, purchased the switch engine that became known to the workers as
"The Dummy." George Pearl was engineer, Manuel DeFreitas, fireman, and John O'Neal, switchman.
