John Angelo was born at Jacksonville, Ill., September 1, 1827 and died at his home in Altamont, Kansas, March 1, 1916, aged 88 years. He was married to Cynthia I. Rafferty January 27, 1849, the companion of whom survives him. For nearly 67 years this couple lived happily together. Seven children were born to this union, six of whom are living, one having died in infancy. All the children were present except Mrs. J. E. Roberts of Weiser, Idaho. The children present were Mrs. H. C. Lyon and Mrs. A. R. Martin of this city, T. H. Angelo of Little Rock, Ark., I. E. Angelo of Aurora, Mo., and L. E. Angelo of Parsons.
John Angelo served three years in the Civil War during which time he made a record for valor. A few years after the war he moved to Labette county and settled on a homestead near Edna where he remained until the year 1886, moving to Altamont where he had resided ever since, and was one among the town's most highly respected citizens.
He became a member of the United Baptist church when he was 20 years old and remained a member until 1870 when he united with the Christian church and he lived an active Christian life ever after, always administering good where ever it was possible. He was one of the main ones who enabled the Christians to build their new church ten years ago.
Funeral services were held at the home Friday afternoon conducted by Rev. O. F. Potter and Rev. Byron Talhelm. The burial ceremony was conducted by the G.A.R.'s and the remains were consigned to the grave at the Altamont cemetery.

Seynthia Isabella Angelo was born in Iowa October 9, 1832 and died at her home in Altamont, Kansas, August 4, 1917, aged 84 years, 9 months, and 26 days.
She was married to John Angelo in Jacksonville, Ill., and to this union seven children were born, four girls and 3 boys. One daughter, Martha preceded her to the world beyond. The remaining children are Mrs. J. E. Roberts of Chico, Cali., Mrs. H. C. Lyons of Altamont, Mrs. A. R. Martin of Altamont, Mr. T. H. Angelo of Little Rock, Ark, Mr. I. E. Angelo of Parsons, and two sisters, Mrs. J. C. Hyler, and Mrs. J. E. Davis both of Parsons who with a host of friends are left to miss the love and sympathy of a true devoted mother and wife. Her husband preceded her 1 year and 5 months.
In early life she united with the Christian church and had always retained her membership in that denomination. The flora offerings and many friends speak of the high esteem in which she was held in the community in which she lived. The remains were laid to rest in the Altamont cemetery Sunday morning.
[Note: Her name is spelled incorrectly. It should be Cynthia. ]
