ASH, JOHN L. - John L. Ash, 79, of Brighton died at 7:20 a.m. on Sept 28 (1976) at St Joseph's Hospital in Alton. He had been in failing health for three years. Ash was a retired postmaster for the village of Brighton. His survivors are his widow, the former Helen Smilley; a daughter, Mrs. Edward (Dorothy) Plumpe of Ferguson, Mo.; a son, John William Ash of California; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a sister, Mrs John (Harriet) McBrien of Alton; and a brother, Eugene R. Ash of Alton. Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Oct 1 at the Warner-Targhetta Funeral Home. Burial will be in Brighton Cemetery, with military rites. Friends may call between 4 and 6 p.m. and 7 and 9 p.m. on Sept 30 at the funeral home.
