G.A.R. Civil War Memorial at Oak Ridge Cemetery

Oak Ridge Cemetery, in Springfield, Sangamon County, Illinois, is one of the most beautiful cemeteries in the state of Illinois. It is also the largest, in terms of area, cemetery in the state. In addition to containing hundreds, if not thousands, of beautiful ornate stones which mark the graves of scores of Springfield's leading citizens, it is also contains the tomb of Abraham Lincoln and his family.

A note from Jeanie: "If you put the address of the cemetery and phone number and a little note that explains if one will write or call the office, and if you also have the name and date of death for an individual, cemetery personnel will provide a little map showing the location of a stone marking that grave. To contact the cemetery office:

Springfield City - Office of Public Works, Oak Ridge Cemetery
1441 Monument Avenue
Springfield, IL 62702
Phone: 217-789-2340

Thanks to Jeanie Lowe for overview photos shown above and to Carole Martin for the photos of the Civil War Memorial at Oak Ridge.
