Jechonias Langston and his wife, Nancy (Dodson) Langston were two of the charter members of the Antioch Christian Church. We have in our research of him learned that he was born in Laurens Co., South Carolina in 1769. Powers, in "Early Settlers of Sangamon County, Illinois" says he was born 1767-1768. We know that he died in Sangamon County, Illinois on Feb. 1, 1852, and is buried in Brittin Cemetery at Cantrall, Illinois in Fancy Creek township. His tombstone stated he was 83 years old, a native of South Carolina. We have been unable to locate proof of his marriage to Nancy Dodson, but believe they were married in Wayne County, Kentucky about 1805.

Jechonias was a son of Jechonias Langston and his wife Mary ( ). The father was born about 1740, and his will is filed in 1788 in Spartanburg County, South Carolina. The will lists my eldest son, Jechonias Jr., my second son, Asa and James. He also had a daughter known to us by the name of Mary Ann who married Thomas Edwards in the early 1790's. We know that this Jechonias was married twice.

Jechonias' grandfather was John Langston who was born about 1710 in either Virginia or North Carolina. John died sometime between 1782 and 1790. His will was dated March 1, 1782, proven Nov. 11, 1790. His first wife was Agnes Mangham, his second wife Elizabeth (Persons? Or Parsons?). We do not know which of the wives was Jechonias' grandmother. The will of John Langston lists 13 children.

James Langston Solomon Langston, Sr. Joseph Langston
Lucinda Langston Jechonias Langston Elizabeth Langston
Rebecca (Becky) Martha (Patsy) Frances (Fannie)
Mary (Molley) Sarah (Sally) Samuel Langston
Jesse Langston
Jechonias and Nancy (Dodson) Langston had 9 known children:
Joseph D., James W., Jechoniah Jr., Martha, Mary G., Margaret, Nancy H., Elizabeth, and Jane

Joseph D. and James W. were born in Wayne County, Kentucky--Jechoniah Jr. was born in either Wayne County, Kentucky or Tennessee--Martha was born in Champaign County, Ohio--Mary G. was born in Ohio--Margaret, Nancy H., Elizabeth and Jane were born in Sangamon County, Illinois.

Nancy (Dodson) Langston died August 19, 1866 near Emporia, Lyons County, Kansas, and is buried there.

Jechoniah and Nancy arrived in Sangamon County, Illinois in February 1820. Sangamon County histories say a baby of Jechoniah was first burial in Brittin Cemetery.
