HON. THOMAS HOLLOWBUSH was born on the 6th of February, 1809, in the state of Pennsylvania. He emigrated to Illinois, in 1836, landing at Naples on the 16th day of April. In the fall of that year he went to the state of Louisiana, where he resided nearly one year. He returned to Naples in 1837, and that fall and winter was employed as one of the superintendents of the state railroad then building between Naples and Jacksonville. In 1838 he was appointed postmaster at Naples, which position he held four years. In 1842 he engaged in the mercantile business, which he continued until 1850, when he sold out and a few years after moved to Warsaw, Illinois, where he engaged in the mercantile trade until the fall of 1857. He then returned to Naples, and entered into a co-partnership with Royal MOORE, under the name and style of Royal Moore & Co., which firm was dissolved by the death of Mr. MOORE. Mr. HOLLOWBUSH was connected for some time with the Neeleyville coal mines, and in 1866 was elected to the legislature by the democratic party of Scott and Pike counties, since which time he has retired from active business. Mr. HOLLOWBUSH is highly respected by the citizens of Scott and adjoining counties.
