SAMUEL W. PUFFER was born on the 8th of January, 1837, at Coleraine, Franklin county, Massachusetts. At the age of nineteen he entered college at Rochester University, and remained four years, when he graduated, and, in the fall if 1860, emigrated to Winchester, where he now resides. Mr. PUFFER read law in the office of Messrs. NAPP & BURR two years, when he was admitted to the bar in the spring of 1862. He was principal of the High School of Winchester for several terms, and was also engaged in the mercantile trade under the firm name of "O'Banion & Puffer," which he continued until 1862, when he engaged in the lumber business, which he conducts on a very large scale at this time. Mr. PUFFER was married, in 1860, to Miss KATE M. POWELL, daughter of Hon. S. R. POWELL, who is one of the prominent old settlers of Winchester.
