HERMAN H. BUDKE

This gentleman was born in the Province of Hanover, Germany, November 22, 1861. In that country he was given the benefits of an academic education and later entered the public schools as a teacher. Like many another young man he became dissatisfied with his surroundings, left the Fatherland and came to America. After coming to this country he attended school four years, and following his arrival in Scott county he was engaged in farming for a number of years northwest of Merritt. October 9, 1889, he was married to Miss Eliza Sherry and moved to a farm four miles west of Winchester, and, after living there for three years, sold out and moved into Winchester. For six years he was a school teacher in Scott county.

In 1898 he accepted a position as traveling salesman and now has charge of southern and western Illinois for the firm of E. Bement's Sons, of Lansing, Michigan, manufacturers of a complete line of agricultural implements, stoves and ranges. In this work he has been quite successful; makes his headquarters at Winchester and has a large circle of friends and acquaintances who wish him well in every undertaking.
