The poultry business at Riggston is represented by Anson M. Coultas, a gentleman of energy and push. Mr. Coultas was born on a farm three-quarters of a mile south of Riggston, in Scott county, June 10, 1864, and has been a resident of the county his entire life. He is the son of a farmer, was reared upon the farm and received his education at the Point Pleasant school. In 1885 he began work for himself, renting land from his father, Thomas Coultas, which he sowed in wheat; the crop averaged him forty bushels per acre and was sold at threshing time at sixty-six cents per bushel. He afterwards bought property. In 1889, February 28, he was married to Miss Ella May Richardson, and in the fall following built a neat little house and a good barn upon his property. He resided there for nearly ten years, when he sold out, moved to Riggston and purchased a comfortable home in that village. In 1899 he embarked in the poultry business at Riggston, which calling now claims his attention. Everybody in that section of the country is acquainted with Anson Coultas. They know that he is a friend to those who are worthy; that he has all the attributes of a manly man, and that his labors, his efforts and his endeavors have ever been on the side of right.
